10th Grade English
Class Syllabus: my procedures and expectations: (rules subject to change)

Follow class Rules on cover page and see expectation and standards below.

The Following is the overview that we will address this year according to Common Core
State Standards initiative.
A strong command of the language arts (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) is vital for
being a successful student and ultimately a productive member of the 21 st century workforce.
Language skills have always been fundamental for academic and professional success. However,
students in the 21st century are now facing more complex challenges in an ever-changing global
society. These challenges have created the need for rigorous state standards in reading, writing,
speaking, and listening.
Literacy meaning the ability to construe a written, linguistic, alphabetic symbol system is
arguably the most important skill students acquire in preschool through twelfth-grade education
because it makes all other forms of higher-order learning, critical thinking, and communication
possible.

Expectations:

Misbehaving:
If your behavior is disrespectful to me, such an example: talking while Im talking, or
sleeping when youre supposed to be paying attention you will be spoken to me politely.
o If happens again in the same period, you will be asked to go splashed some H2O
on your face and not return for 5 minutes.
If your behavior is disrupting other of your peers you will be taken into the hallway and
we will have a discussion of your behavior.
o Second time you will be asked (and I mean told) to leave the classroom and
explain to administration why you are in their office space. Good Luck!
Homework:
late homework is to your disadvantage as you will fall further behind and have to work
harder later on to catch up, not doing homework or classwork does not make it go away.
Life happens! I get that! If you have a life situation that occurs, please have a discussion
with me and I will give you a new turn in date, if appropriate to the situation.
Most assignments will have a twenty-four-hour dead line, but please know that I reserve
the right to change that rule. P.S. most assignments will be due Friday at the beginning
of class, so if you dont get it done and turned in on time, I hope you enjoy working
on Saturday! But there youve got your extra 24 hours.
Test/Quizzes:
There not designed to trip you up! If you do the work you should get/understand and be
able to explain the answer or circle the correct one.
Make up quiz- only authorized and verified excuses will be granted for missed quizzes
and tests. If you just did not want to show up or are late, sorry

Absences/tardiness:
Will follow school standards-
o Exceptions will be made for authorized and verified excuses.
o Tardiness, Im a little more flexible, as I understand life happen between classes,
dont abuse this kindness. (rule is if your late to my class for three days of the
week, (based on a five-day week) and you dont have a verified excuse, then
all the tardies for the week will count.)
Participation:
I know this is a tough one, some of you are uncomfortable speaking out loud, I want you
to get used to this, because when you ask question, you remember better, and most likely
someone else has that question as well.
I will call on everybody at least once a week, if you try and I know your tying your good,
if you say I dont know or something to that effect, then that will not count. If you sit in
your group, remember you peers will give me feedback on your participation, and you
will not all ways be with your friends, remember this!
Showing up to class is a big part of participation, how can you participate if youre not in
class?

Restroom:
Your young adults, go when you have to go, please inform me. This rule and part of the
syllabus is subject to change at any time. If this rule is abused then I will change it.
Students please remind your fellow students to not abuse this policy and my trust. This is
all for your benefit.

Grading Scale:
A 100-90
B 89- 80
C 79-70
D 69- 60
F 60 and below

These are the grading standards that I must follow due to school policy.
