My Classroom
My goal is to create a
welcoming, nurturing
environment where
students can come and feel
at home. Our classroom will
be a shared space where we
will support one another.
My approach is completely
student focused and driven
by their individual learning
styles and needs. I pay great
attention to developing
CLASSROOM COMMUNITY relationships with each of
my students and this adds to
the classroom community
environment.
Students are able to
use clipboards to
move around the
room to find good
fit spots to work in. A
variety of seating is
ideal such as stability
cushions, exercise
balls, vinyl beanbags,
wobble stools, and
comfortable rugs for
students to work on FLEXIBLE SEATING
the floor.

GOOGLE SUITE

The complete Google Suite will be used in my classroom from choosing

interesting, appropriate and safe videos from YouTube to supplement my
lessons to using Google Slides to communicate ideas and classroom
management. I also have knowledge of Google Sheets where I will
record and analyze student data to guide my lessons.
My Classroom
Continued
I anticipate a variety of learning
styles in my classroom including
visual learners. Providing many
visual representations in the
classroom such as alphabet
charts, and anchor charts
allows students the opportunity
to anchor their learning.

VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS

Students, especially in the early

grades need an environment that
is rich with print. Using familiar
logos in a classroom book they
can read helps them to build
confidence in reading. I would also
use a word wall to house new
vocabulary and sight words that
our class has covered.

PRINT RICH ENVIRONMENT

Rules and/Procedures
The rule I will have is RESPECT
YOURSELF, by always doing your
very best.
OTHERS, by treating them the way
you would want to be treated.
SCHOOL & CLASSROOM we have to
take care of our learning
environment.
*Other classroom rules will be
established by a social contract that is
agreed upon and signed by the whole
class.

RESPECT

This checklist provides a way for me

to keep track of all of my classroom
procedures that will need to be
taught at the beginning of the year.
This will also be helpful to have
when a new student arrives, I can
use this checklist to be sure the
student is well informed about the
functions of our classroom.

CLASS DOJO Working Hard
This is my preferred method but I am Negative Classroom Behaviors
flexible to the needs of the districts Decided as a Classroom
behavior management system. Community

My goal for behavior management is

to focus on correcting behavior
rather than punishment for behavior.
This is accomplished through
teacher/student meetings and
guided problem solving

Communication with parents is key! I

will encourage the idea that the
parents and myself are a team for
their childs education.

Focus on intrinsic rewards whenever

possible. Such as: Story Share time,
class dance parties, and positive
notes between students. CLASS DOJO PARENT LETTER
I wanted to tell you all about an online classroom
management system I will be using this year called Class
Dojo! I love this classroom management system because
it promotes positive behavior, a growth mindset and
keeps parents updated and I know you will love it too!

Students will be able to earn points based on their

behavior throughout the day and cash them in for
classroom perks such as dance party, smelly feet, or a
seat at the VIP table ! Students love being able to
customize their Dojo monster and save up their points for
the perks!

Once you make an account and join our class, you will
be able to track your childs behavior at any time! Making
an account only takes a few minutes and can be done on a
computer or even the free app!

Class Dojo has so many features that I know you will

love! The Messages feature makes parent and teacher
communication simple and easy. There is also
a Class Story feature that allows me to post
pictures and videos during the school day to
keep you updated with what is happening in
our classroom!

Positive Incentives
Students can use their Class Dojo
points to buy a seat at the VIP table
for themselves and a friend. The VIP
table will be stocked with fancy
supplies such as scented markers,
washi tape, and glitter glue.

VIP TABLE

Students can use their Class Dojo

points to host a Dance Party for the
class during a brain break time. This
will consist of the student selecting a
song from GoNoodle.com

GO NOODLE DANCE PARTY

Students can use their Class Dojo

points to host a Smelly Feet party
for the class. This will consist of the
students being allowed to take off
their shoes during an approved time
of the day.

SMELLY FEET
Other Procedures

BLURT BALLS
During my clinical teaching placement I noticed that some of my students
were having trouble with blurting out answers during whole group
lessons. I found and modified this strategy to fit the class. Each student
gets a ball when they come to the carpet. If they blurt out an answer they
have to give it back and cannot add it to the cumulative class reward jar.

I noticed that my small group time

was becoming less productive with
a large amount of interruptions. I
would wear this crown as a visual
reminder that I was doing very
important work with a group of
students at the moment and we are
not to be interrupted.

Literacy Development

The Daily 5 is a literacy

development model that has
many benefits and applications. By
implementing the Daily 5 this
allows:
Management of the entire
literacy block.
Teaches students
independence.
Allows for small group sessions.
Builds stamina for beginning
readers.
Teaches students to manage
their own literacy goals.
Allows for differentiation of
reading instruction. THE DAILY 5 IN ACTION
Math Development
Math Daily 3 is a framework for
structuring math time so students
develop deep conceptual
understanding and mathematical
proficiency.

Students select from these three

choices:
Math by Myself- Can involve activity
boards, various math tools/
manipulatives, or even the use of
computers or tablets.
Math Writing- It is time students
express and articulate their thinking and
understanding by working an a particular
math problem or math concept through
pictures, numbers, and words, and
occasionally by creating problems of their
own as well.
Math with Someone- This task allows
students to have experience with talking
and writing
about
mathematics as
they describe
and explain
their thinking to
THE DAILY 3 AT WORK peers.
Technology Integration

Technology integrations are becoming more and more

prevalent. It is vital that students are capable of effectively
using technology as it is becoming standard to know a variety
of programs in todays world. I have implemented many
different applications through my lessons and I have noticed
a significant increase in student engagement. Along with the
use of the app Book Creator students are able to add media
they have created using other apps into a digital interactive
notebook. These apps contain appealing qualities for all
learning styles especially kinesthetic, visual, and auditory
learners.
STEAM
Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Mathematics
Todays society is rapidly changing and becoming more influenced by
technology. To ensure success in this evolving economy it is my goal to
help students develop excitement and love for STEAM concepts. I will
do this my providing differentiated, engaging activities that focus on an
area of STEAM. Students that finish tasks early will have an opportunity
to select a STEAM Bins that I will create and rotate regularly task
cards.
EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

Toothpick Structures
Craft Stick Puzzles
Cup Stack Structures
Foil Towers
Pipe Cleaner Challenges
Magnetic Block Challenges
Art Exploration

SPENCER HENRY SEMINAR

Spencer Henry is a well known author and international consultant on
motivating and managing people. I had the opportunity of attending one of
his seminars at Tarleton State University as well as completing learning
modules during my clinical teaching semester. I took away some invaluable
information and numerous strategies that will help me understand and
correct misbehavior in my classroom. Strategies for prevention,
intervention and resolution were all presented.

A few strategies that I have successfully implemented are:

Holding Class Meetings
Student/Teacher Problem Solving Conferences
Listen, acknowledge, redirect , or defer
Building Relationships
Voice Level Control
Bookends when giving directions
Quiet Signals
Find a Partner Alternatives
Assigning CEO or Consultants
Nonverbal Signals
Student Proximity
Using Thinking Statements
Offering Student Choices
Communication
As a parent myself I understand how much our children mean to us. I want each one
of my students parents to feel empowered in their childs educational experience
and I believe that open lines of communication are the beginning. I will encourage
the parents and I to work together as a team to best support the childs education.
I will provide weekly check ins with the parents and each month the parents will be
supplied with an informational newsletter and calendar so that they will be well
informed with the schools activities and events. I will make it my goal to contact
parents regarding positive matters that involve their child such as sending home
kind notes and making phone calls to report good behavior. It is my belief that
parents need to hear the good things that their child accomplishes rather than
solely negative reports. I will also create a classroom Facebook page that parents
can be added to and to which I will upload reminders, approved photos and videos
as well so that the families can see what their child is doing in our classroom. Class
Dojo also will be a form of communication and updating.
