To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my interest in an open position in your district. I believe that the
needs of all students should be met in order for them to be successful in the classroom. It
is my goal to create a learning environment that welcomes everyone, accepts diverse
student experiences, and challenges all students.

In my time at Loras College I was fortunate enough to observe and teach in a number of
different Professional Development Schools in the Dubuque area. In my most recent
student teaching experience in a co-taught Kindergarten classroom, I developed lesson
plans in correlation with the Iowa Core for math and reading. I also adapted lesson plans
for science in order to meet the needs of all students' learning styles. Differentiating the
individual instruction for students was another essential component in the success of all
students in the classroom. I guided my instruction using both formative and summative
assessments such as pretests, daily observations, and FAST testing. My current student
teaching placement is in a Multi-cat classroom consisting of first and second graders.
During this time, I have been using direct instruction for students in appropriate level
groups, for math and reading. I also facilitate weekly progress monitoring probes and
other forms of assessment to guide the direction of my lessons.

In addition to my classroom experiences, my education has also played an important role

in my preparation to becoming an educator. The Loras College education department
relies on the college's dispositions when designing the curriculum. Education students are
taught to be reflective thinkers and ethical decision makers through collaboration. From
these experiences and classes I believe I have a solid foundation to become a highly-
qualified educator.
