Synonym Rolls Word Choice


Lesson Duration: 60 minutes

Review synonyms from last lesson
Create new list for ran
Create synonym rolls and paste on tin foil sheet

Resources: Smartboard lesson, cardstock, tin foil, cinnamon cut outs, glue, markers,
beige paper, cinnamon rolls

PROCEDURE

Introduction (brief):

Attention Grabber:
(5 minutes)
Core Practice
Show first Smartboard picture of cinnamon buns and call them synonym buns. (See who picks
up on pun)
Show cinnamon rolls as treat for after the lesson is through

Body:

1. Define synonym a word that has the same meaning as Assessment:


another word (write on whiteboard) Formative
2. Lets review words from our Mustache activity - Probing/ Questioning
3. Get out your green sheets if you need to but lets think of
some words. Try to remember without looking. (fill in chart as a Formative
class) - Probing/ Questioning

4. Add ran to the board as an option

5. Synonym Bun Time!! Show exemplar discussion


- Check for
6. Explain that you will hand out synonym bun handout for them
understanding
to fill in. Demonstrate on white board If my word is Good I
will write that in the middle and then write the synonyms around
the rest. If you finish early, you may get to put some real
cinnamon on your buns!
7. Tell students that once they have their synonym rolls finished
they may come get a tin foil tray to start gluing. Remind
students to pick 4 different words.
8. Hand-out template. Students may work with a partner if they
choose.
9. Have students cut out synonym rolls and glue onto tin foil
when ready
10. For those who are done early, have cinnamon ready to
sprinkle on with glue.
