Learning Targets/Objectives:

The 1st grade students will classify pictures as land, air, and water pollution by placing their
coloring page on a bulletin board.
Assessment Approaches: Evidence:
1. Follow along 1. observable with anecdotal notes
2. Coloring page 2. Observable with anecdotal notes and
collectable.
Assessment Scale:
First grade students will identify one out of three of the types of pollution and place their
coloring page in that area.

Subject Matter/Content: Different types of pollution such as air, land, and water and discussing
where it comes from.
Prerequisites: Students would need background knowledge on what air, land and water are.
Students ability draw or color.
Key Vocabulary: Pollution, environment, littering defined in lesson below.
Content/Facts:
- Three types of pollution- air, land, and water.
- Where pollution comes from- places, cars, and people.
- Examples of pollution- litter, trash, food waste, different materials.

Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies: (10 Minutes)

-To introduce the class to pollution the teacher will use props around the room to demonstrate
different types of pollution by putting wrappers around the room, empty cans and bottles, grey
cotton ball clouds, a sign that says toxic waste and as its pouring into the sink.
-This is to help excite children as they walk in and help them build questions or ideas about
what we are going to be learning.
-Each student will receive copies of all the pictures attached to this lesson.
-Teacher will have a pollution video to play for students about key concepts about todays
lesson make sure to pause frequently to give students time to identify and write the words on
the page.
-Students will identify which picture is which by writing air, land, or water on the coloring
pages.
-let students keep this for future reference.
-Review the video with students and key terms.

-Introduce vocabulary words the class will be using today such as

litter: trash, such as paper, cans, and bottles, that is left lying in an open or public
place.

pollution: the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or


thing that has harmful or poisonous effects.

environment: the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant


lives or operates.
