Student: Lea Martinez

Subject/Concept: CCSD Science/ Understand that science is an active process of

systematically examining the natural world. Understand that landforms result from a

combination of constructive and destructive processes

Grade Level: Kindergarten

1. Standards:

Observable Objective:

 Objectives: Students will be able to name some landforms in both English and

Spanish that are on earth. Students will be able to identify what constructive and

destructive processes cause landforms.

 Multicultural Goal: Students will work in groups and be able to design a

volcano that is found on a different country and this will develop an educational

environment that promotes respect for differences.

Observable Objective:

 Auditory: I will read out loud to the class the PowerPoint presentation

 Kinesthetic: The children will be making a volcano from one of the 5 countries

listed in the PowerPoint

 Visual: PowerPoint slide will show different landforms caused by destructive and

constructive forces and will show volcanoes from different countries

 Gardner’s Intelligence: Musical intelligence- The children will sing a song

about landforms during circle time.

Naturalist Intelligence: The children will learn about the natural world when

learning about landforms and the destructive and constructive forces.

2. Materials: - Landform song

-PowerPoint presentation on landforms, the destructive and constructive forces that make

landforms, and countries that are home to volcanoes

-What is needed for volcano project: paper plates, plastic bottles, modeling clay (red,

green, and brown), water, baking soda, vinegar, dishwashing liquid, red food coloring,

funnel, measuring spoon, and measuring cup

- Pictures of landforms to post on wall

-landform worksheets

3. Instruction/learning process:

 Do first: Students will begin with circle time. Tell them, “Today we are going to learn

about landforms and what causes them.” Show students the landform poster that is on the

wall. Have students stand up and teach them the Basic Landforms song. Sing the song 2-

3 times.

 Mini lesson: Set up the PowerPoint presentation and read through it for the students.

This will explain the landforms and the constructive and destructive processes. Show

them the different landforms in both English and Spanish. Show them what each
landform looks like. Emphasize that they will be making a volcano in groups to represent

one of the countries on the PowerPoint.

 Guided Practice: Give each student a landform worksheet and have them draw a picture

of the landform that corresponds with the word. Check each student’s worksheet and

help them understand the word on the worksheet if they need help. Assist English

language learners and tell them the word in their native language.

 Independent practice: Tell students it is time to make a volcano, which is both a

landform and a creator of landforms found in many countries. Get the students in small

groups. Give each group the materials to make their volcano. Put names of the countries

on paper and put the paper in a box where students can choose from. The country they

pick out is the country they make the volcano from.

 Exit slip: Teacher gets students in large group and asks, Can you name some landforms

we learned today? Students answer. Teacher then asks do you remember some of the

processes that make landforms? Students answer. If students have trouble, put up

PowerPoint slide for them. Do you remember which landform is also a destructive and

constructive force? If students have trouble give them hints.

5. Reflection: I believe this lesson plan teachers the children first about the different landforms

on our planet and second the constructive and destructive processes that form them. This is

shown to them on the PowerPoint presentation. Having the names of the landforms in both

English and Spanish will help my Spanish students in learning the concepts. The landform song

during circle time is a way to get the children excited about the lesson. Getting the children in

groups when making a volcano allows the children to interact with others from different cultural

and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The strengths of my lesson plan is the group work that these children will be doing, having the

names of the landforms in Spanish, and showing these children that volcanos are found in many

countries around the world.

A weakness of my lesson plan is I could have included a few more languages in the PowerPoint

presentation for other students that do not speak English well or Spanish.
