Our learning center ideas
Activities
1. Where do the stars go? (Mathematics/
Categorization)
In this activity, the children will have to cate-
gorize hand-made stars in terms of color, num-
ber of branches or size. With the use of mir-
rors, the children will be able to see the stars
from all their angles.

2. My very own planet. (Art/Literacy)
This activity will imply that children create
their own planet. They will have to represent it
by creating an art piece, and the teacher will
write for them the description that goes along
with it. The students will be invited to use nat-
ural material, as well as paint and crayons as
they wish. The teacher will hang the final re-
sults in the classroom.

Literacy rich environment
We find important to create a literacy rich envi-
ronment, therefore we wish to display a lot of
words in our learning center, through the activi-
ties and through a word wall.
Activities
3. Alphabet stars. (Literacy/Letter recogni-
tion/ phonological awareness)
The students will be asked to find letters on
phosphorescent stars which will be placed
everywhere in the classroom (the lights will
be closed). They will then have to place
them on words that they will find on a light
table.
Competencies 1, 3, 5, 6 will be targeted

4 Constellations, in movement! (Gross mo-
tor, Fine motor)
For this activity, students will have the op-
portunity to explore the constellations using
the application sky map, which they will
navigate to learn the different constellations
and their location. Students will then be
invited to explore some of them on the
floor; constellations will be taped to it. The
children will then be able to connect the
dots and understand their shape.

Activities
5. Using my senses to discover space. (Fine
motor)
This activity aims to help the students discover
a new environment through their senses.
Therefore, with the creation of some elements
(e.g. moon sand) and use of natural props (e.g.
rocks) the students will be invited to feel what
a different environment could be like. Clear
sensory bins will be used for this activity.

6. I am an astronaut! (Gross motor, social
skills)
In this activity, the students will have the op-
portunity to use home-made props in order to
enact a trip in space. They will get the chance
to interact with each other while having fun
in space! Small mathematics and literacy
components will be integrated.

Management
Our management system is quite simple; it is
based on the use of popsicle sticks. The children
will each have a popsicle stick with their name
on it and will get to choose the activity they
want to do. There will be a place with small
pockets representing each activity where the
children will put their respective sticks.
