NATURAL HABITAT
RANGE: It is found in Australia
HABITAT: Tropical forests of New Guinea,
nearby islands, and northeastern Australia.
Mainly found in tropical forests northeastern
Australia and New Guinea.

BIOLOGY
WILD DIET: fruits that fall from trees, leaves,
grasses, seeds, insects, spiders,
invertebrates.
LIFE SPAN: In captivity 60 the longest is 61.
ADAPTATION: Thick, bristly feathers to protect
from thorns on thickets or bushes, Long-range
hearing help hear predators before getting too
close.
STATUS: Rare
GENDER DIFFERENCE: The female is bigger
than the male.

Behavior
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR: Solitary. Social when
mating season.
VOCALIZATION: Cassowaries also hiss and
whistle to communicate, and clap their bills or
rumble.

Captivity Concerns
FOOD SUPPLY: Cassowaries feed on fallen
fruit.
SAFTEY FOR ANIMAL/HUMAN: Secure
cassowary habitat now. Replant cassowary
fruit trees and create safe. Slow down and
carefully drive around it.
INTERESTING FACTS: The shield on their head
is called a casque. The cassowary egg is the
third largest of all birds at about 584g. No
chewing is involved in the eating process,
lunch is swallowed whole.
