Sr. No. Pressure Part Area
1 Membrane Panel 88.9 m2
2 Shell 371.5 m2
3 Nose wall 39.5 m2
4 Front Wall 17.1 m2
Total 517.0 m2

Required Safety Valve Capacity:

Safety valve relief capacity= Heating Surface area X 30 :IBR regulation 293

Boiler Capacity (C) = 18000 kg/hr

Minimum Required Safety valve relief capacity on Shell as per heat
transfer area (C1) = 15511 kg/hr
Minimum Required Safety valve relief capacity on SH (25% of Total
capacity) (C2) = 4500 kg/hr
Minimum Required Safety valve relief capacity on Shell (Maximum of (C
C2) & C1))= 15511 kg/hr

Actual Safety valve relief capacity:

Safety Valve-2 40 NB 6.602 38 32.39 8126 kg/hr
Total 16252 kg/hr

Margin over required capacity on Shell = 5 %

As the provided capacity of safety valves is greater than the required,

hence the provided safety valve capacity is adequate.

A1= Cross sectional Area of stand pipe in mm2 1139.51
Cross sectional Area of stand pipe in cm2 11.40

As the provided stand pipe of safety valves is greater than the c/s area of orifice hence design is safe,

Margin over required capacity on SH = 56 %

Total capacity of safety valves = 23284 kg/hr

Margin Over the Maximum capacity required = 29.36 %

As the total capacity of safety valves provided is greater than required capacity, hence safety
valve selection is safe
