Lifelong Wellness Reflection Paper

By Chandler Isbell

1. What connections have you had from what youve studied in Fitness for Life with what
youve learned from other courses you have taken at SLCC or have learned before taking
this class? Make specific references to your work in this class and in other courses. How
did what you learned in other courses enhance what you learned in Fitness for Life, and
vice versa?

One specific connection that comes to mind when analyzing what I have learned is the
similarity between this class and my film class. In my film class which is also a diversity
credit we talked about how society has changed over time. This reminded me of the steps
to make a behavioral change. The same way we as a country recognize a problem and
work to make it right is similar to the process that a person takes to make behavioral
change. This connection helped me apply that process into my life in fitness and socially
as well.

2. Reflect on what you thought about Fitness and Lifelong Wellness before you took this
course and how you think about it now that the course is over. Have any of your
assumptions or understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings
were influential in this process? How will you approach what influenced you differently
in the future

Before this course I generally accepted that your physique and appearance was basically
all there was to it when it came to fitness. Throughout the course I have learned that are
lots of other components that are just as important such as stress management, fitness,
nutrition, cardiorespiratory endurance, etc. All these things amount to making someone a
healthy individual. One really influential reading/ted talk for me were those based on
stress. That was truly something that I didnt think had a connection to fitness at all and
much less your health. My perspective changed when I found out that people who are
impatient, competitive and aggressive have a higher risk of heart disease. I will now
remember the importance of stress and that it is something helpful but in moderate not
large doses. Additionally in my future I would like to also incorporate all the factions we
have learned in this class that lead to a healthy active lifestyle in my life.
