SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Name - Elise Brown Project Start Date January 27, 2017

Title of Project - The Mock Trial of Sharanda Jones Project Completion Date - April 9,2017

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project?
The impact of my project benefitted my audience by letting them know the impact of mandatory
minimum sentencing. It was my goal to demonstrate a fun and clear picture of how mandatory minimum
sentencing works in the courts; and knowledge that Judges cant always use their discretion. Based, on the
audience participation in the survey I created major would have change the guidelines if they could.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you?
This project was both a challenge and a stretch for ,because I had to write scripts for every part of the
trial. I had to be really careful not to lean on one side more than the other, I had to put myself in the places
of each role to make the trial interesting and enformable at that same time. Throughout, the process of
completing the scripts I tried to find a similar case to shadow but I was unlucky. At that same time I could
not find the actual case of Sharanda Jones online and I had to get some of my information about the from
the New York Times article about her. Late on, I was finally able to find the case online and I added some
of the information the New York Times article left out.

3. List and then describe fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project. Please use a table format as shown in the example below.
Ive learned to establish the skill of patience about setting up my venue. I have grown to be dependant on
myself to get things done and to be more efficient in my work.

4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly describe
how you solved each.
1. Finding the case of Sharanda Jones - searching nonstop
2. Writing Scripts - I found the case online
3. Projector Cooperating for 20mins
4. Witness not showing up - I had gotten a replacement by asking a friend of mine to fill in last
minute.
5. List materials used.
Projector
Laptop
Podium
Crab Mallet
Paper/Scripts

6. List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.

Brittany Flintosh (LSA Senior)- I am very thankful to her. She filled in last minute to play the role of my
witness in the case. She read the script fluently like she rehearsed it the night before.

Jasmine Geonzon (LSA Senior) - She acted the role of my prosecutor in the Mock Trial. She had really
good, clear, strong voice which was exactly what I wanted from her. She executed it beautifully.

Marisa Craig- played the role of Sharanda Jones in the trial and she really got into character. She has been
a good friend of mine since elementary school. She really played the part by staying firm while being
cross-examined.

Melanie Goossens- She played the role of the Defense Attorney in the trial. Marisa and Melanie go to
Norfolk Collegiate and are Seniors as well. Melanie, is in theatre so she really acted the part and did a
great job.

7. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the project?
Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

The execution of my project and the picture I had in mind didnt differ all that much. The idea I had
in my proposal was to have the audience guess the sentence Sharanda Jones would have based on any
prior knowledge or what seems accurate based on what was heard in the trial. However, as I was
completing my project I had put that idea out back and decided to tell the audience the sentence and
ask for their feedback on the survey that I created.

8. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?
Now, that I have experienced writing a Mock Trial. I would have let the people that I assigned roles to
make their own scripts ,but with guidance like I had to do in nine grade. I should have the audience act as
a jury and call the verdict how they thought fit. Thats the only things I wish I had done differently,
however, I am proud that I was able to complete the scripts it without changing the idea of my project
entirely.
9. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?
Throughout this project I have learned that I can host any event and it will turnout fantastic.

10. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Justify the evaluation of your grade in at least 25
words.
I would give myself an eighty-eight because the I worked really hard on those scripts and thats where I
the majority of my time went to into completing this project. I may not have had many role to write
scripts for, but I put a lot in it.

Grade: 88
