Genres in Academic Writing: Research Report Methods

According to UEfAP, the method in a research paper thoroughly describes and explains

what steps were taken in the study and what materials you used for each step. By including a

method in your paper, it allows the reader to know that the research was really thought out and

done properly and also shows that the results that are stated in the paper are reliable. UEfAP also

states that the things that should be included in the methods section is; an overview of the

research, a theoretical justification, a population or sample, a location, restrictions or limiting

conditions, a sampling technique, procedures, materials, any variables, and statistical treatment.

This is important to know for our IMRAD essay because it goes into further detail about what a

methods section should look and how it should be formatted.

structure that the results section should include; an introduction of the results, a statement that

shows where the results are found, a statement that shows the most important findings of the

research, and a statement talking about the results. UEfAP also states that the results section is
