Standard #2 Learning Differences

The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and
communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet
high standards.

Interpretation

As a teacher, I understand that it is my responsibility to observe and reflect daily in order

to create an environment in which all students have an equal opportunity of learning.
Each student is unique and has their own heritage, culture, and abilities. It is my
responsibility to work with other teachers, administrative staff, parents/caregivers, and
the community to educate my students with a curriculum that is inclusive and models
behavior that includes multi-cultural teachings, accommodations, and is without biases
and prejudices. Each student as the right to shine and their uniqueness should be
celebrated.

Reflection on the Standard

Because this standard focuses on accommodating differences and helping a child reach
his/her full potential, I chose to include a lesson plan that I created of a fictional student
in need of modifications and a reflection I wrote regarding identifying exceptional
students and modifying lessons to accommodate the students gifts to demonstrate
teaching a classroom to include various learning differences.
