2016/2017 Goals
My goals for this school year (2016/2017) are to focus on the two
following standards:
1). Standard 1.5- Promoting self-directed, reflective learning for all
students. (Admin. Chosen)
2). Standard 1.4-Engaging students in problem solving, critical
thinking, and other activities that make the subject matter
meaningful.
This year I have approximately 25 students including both 5 th and
7th graders. I have two E block classes with approx. 12 students in
each class. Most of my students are low in some if not all
academic areas. I plan to use multiple instructional strategies to
engage student learning so that the subject matter is meaningful.
I hope to connect what they are learning with real life examples
so that the subject matter is interesting to them and engages
them.
In promoting self-directed, reflective learning for all students, I
feel I am at a late 2 to early 3 level and in engaging students in
problem solving and critical thinking and other activities that
make the subject matter meaningful, I am also midlevel 2 to low
3. I will try to use the same approach to cover both standards. I
will try to engage students by connecting ideas using direct
instruction, books at their level that we read as a group, class
discussions, notes and videos. I want to support my students to
monitor their own learning and be able to reflect on their work
with peers. I also want to teach and create learning opportunities
so that students analyze subject matter and inquire and question
what they are reading.
