Unit 54 assignment 3

Ciaran Morton

Diary

Introduction:
In the document I am going to document what I do in this assignment and
how I do it, this includes creating the graphics I designed in Unit 54
assignment and completing the checklist for Unit 54 assignment 3.

Creating the folders and starting all documents:

At the start of this assignment I decided to create all of the files I need,
this includes files for the graphics, the diary, the ILP, the sources, the
other images, the assets and the other checklist. The
image to the right is the initial folders I created; there
are three layers of folders in this assignment. This is
so I can keep track of where I save everything to and
make sure I keep everything neat and orderly.
The image to the right shows the main folders I
created to keep the assets in order throughout this
assignment. An example of this is the Graphics
folder has two sub-folders; this includes three folders
in the Graphics folder called the Logo, Poster and CD cover, then
in the sub folders there are three folders for each ladled (graphic) assets,
edited copy and final copy. The asset file is for the assets involved in the
graphic, the edited copy file is for the PhotoShop file and the final copy is
for the exported finished graphic, this is so that I do not get confused with
the finished and unfinished graphics.

Checklist:
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

Before I start working on the graphics I am going to

get some of the checklist out of the way, this is by
writing in all of the definitions for the tools and other
headers. By doing this I can focus on the graphics and
writing only about graphics. The image to the right
shows the checklist I am going to be editing.
The image to the right shows the checklist, at the end
of this assignment I will have filled in this checklist and
it will be a few pages long. This is because I need to
write all of the definitions, descriptions and uses of
each of the tools I am going to use.
The image to the right shows that I have written the
workspace section.
The image to the right shows the first section if the
checklist (workspace), in this section I wrote and
described PhotoShop and word as these are the two
workspaces I am going to use in this assignment. This is
because I am going to be using PhotoShop for the
graphics and Microsoft Word for the other files I need to
create in this assignment.
The image in the workspace section is an image of the
Adobe PhotoShop pro 2015 cc; this is because I was
explaining the layout. In addition, I explained how I am used to the default
PhotoShop layout as I used this a lot compared to the
newer layouts.
In the image to the right, it shows that I have written
out the second section on the checklist (toolbox), in
this section I written about the tool bar on PhotoShop
and the tool bar on Microsoft Word. I did this as Word
and PhotoShop are the only files I am going to be
working in throughout this assignment.
The entire image to the right is the second section in
the checklist; this is extremely detailed as I am trying
to get Distinction in this unit. This is also because I
want to be as thorough as possible so that I do not miss
anything out.
Unit 54 assignment 3

The image to the right is the third section (status bar)

in the checklist. This shows the description of status
bars and how I am going to use them, this also talks
about the keyboard shortcuts associated with the tools
on the status bars. I have described one of the
shortcuts from Adobe PhotoShop as Ctrl, Alt + V as
being paste in place as this is quicker than scrolling
through options to get to the command.

(16/3/17) (First and second session) Objective:

To continue to work on the checklist, update the diary, sources and ILP.

To the right is the section I just wrote out for the fourth
section on the checklist. In the image to the right you can
see it talks about File information, this means what the
files contain. In this assignment, the files will mostly
contain what the graphics are and how they are made (just
like this one).
The image to the right shows a fairly detailed section on
file information, this shows the 4th section of the checklist.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

The image to the right is the fifth section of the checklist titled
Tool option bar.
This section is long as I had to write about all of the hidden
tools for PhotoShop, this includes all 65 tools that are linked
behind the tool bar. In this section I conclude that I will be using
a few of the tools listed in this section as I have a lot of
experience with them and I know how to use thewm to improve
my work.

The image to the right shows the finished sixth section of the
checklist titled palette well.
The image to the right shows the sixth section of the
checklist, this is all about the palette well on PhotoShop so in
this section I explained all about its features and how it is
used.

The image to the right shows the seventh section on the checklist
titled Floating palettes.
The section to the right shows the section I wrote out for
Photoshops detachable panels, this shows what they are, how
they could be used and why I am not going to be using them.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

The image to the right is of the eighth section, this is titles

save.
In this section I explained what saving is, how it is used, the
different types of saving, how to save in the softwares I am
going to use using and how I am going to be saving regularly so
I dont lose work.

The image to the right is the ninth section, this section is titles
Undo This section is a bit shorter than the rest of them as this is
just a single command.
The image to the right shows undo section where I explain: what
the undo feature does, what the redo feature is, show how it is
linked into PhotoShop, how it is linked to Work and how I used it in
this assignment. On top of this I also explained how to use
keyboard shortcuts to do this with simple commands.

The tenth section is shown in the image to the right titled Palettes.
The image to the right is most of the tenth section as I ran out of time
to complete it, this shows a 2.5/3 page section and I still need to add
the sections on actions, size and resolution. In the sections that I
completed I wrote about what everything is, how to use it, how it links
into PhotoShop and how I am going to use it or why I am not.

Learnt:
In these past two sessions I completed a few sections on the checklist and
also updated the ILP, sources and diary.

Aim (for both first and third session):

To finish working on the checklist and start working on the logo. Also to
update the ILP, sources and diary.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

Evidence:
I finished off the section of the checklist I left off from on
Thursday as shown to the right.
The image to the right shows the entire section for
Palettes.

The image to the left is the tools section.

The image to the left shows the tool section of the document
where I explained what some of the tools on PhotoShop are,
how they are used, if I am going to use them and how I am
going to use them.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

The image to the right shows the last section on the checklist.
This shows the almost 6 pages that I wrote out for the last
section on the checklist.

Logo:

In the assignment I am going to be creating the logo first, this is

mainly because I implemented the logo in all of the other
graphics. After the logo, I am going to create the poster, and then I
will create the CD cover.
To start I created the document for the logo
shown.

Now I am going to add the original Mario

enemy to the document and cut out the face.

The image to the left shows the image

and the face has been selected.

The image to the right shows the

CTRL + C and CTRL + V on the
face (copy and paste).
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

Now I am going to delete the whole image (apart from

the newly copied section which is on a separate layer as
pasted assets default to a new layer as shown to the
right.

Going to now trace around the face and

copy it over.

The image to trhe right shows the outline I used on

the logo face.

This shows the trace without the face, if I create this

with rectangles, I can give it a traditional pixels art look.
As the background is going to be red, I am going to
draw this out and add a 20% opacity white or light grey
section behind the logo to make it stand out slightly
more.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

By un-evenly colouring the face it

shows up the pixels a lot more so I can
do this throughout the face.

This shows the technique I am going with.

After doing this I think colouring it in fully

would be better.

Learnt
Finished the checklist (over 21 pages) and started working on the logo,
also updated the ILP, sources and diary.
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

Aim (21/3/17 third and fourth session):

To start working on all three (logo, poster and CD cover/s). The logo is one
document, the poster is another document and the CD cover is a front,
spine and back cover. Also, update ILP, sources and diary.
Evidence:
Starting to colour in the logo. Logo shown to the right.
The image to the right shows the coloured/filled in
logo.
Now I am going to create a layer behind the logo and
add in a 20% opacity white brush to make the logo
stand out in a black background. I planned on doing
this as I did not fill in the teeth of the face.

The illustrations shown above show the 20% opacity brush and the new
layer I wrote about that is shown underneath the face. I Am now going to
demonstrate how this 20% opacity brush looks with an example to the
right, this change is NOT going to be saved to the logo! This is just an
example!
Unit 54 assignment 3
Ciaran Morton

In the EXAMPLE it shows the black square I added to

show the 20% opacity brush I added behind the face.
Now I have seen this I am going to remove the lines
above the teeth so that the teeth blend into the 20%
opacity brush.

The image to the left shows the teeth

without lines above them.

The example image to the right shows the black

background on the logo! Again, this is just to show
what the logo will look like once on the assets! This
change has NOT been saved to the logo!

Now I am going to add the text to the bottom of the

logo and export (and document exporting the
document).

Image to the right shows I added default size 15

pixel font THE PIXELS and made sure the layer was
above the white layer and inside the white section
so it would be visible.

Going to export this after I remove the black section behind it as I

mentioned THREE times now THIS IS JUST TO SHOW AS AN EXAMPLE and
is NOT on the exported image!
