ThisshortfilmJune12isasocialawarenessprojectcreatedbyacharity
thatareagainstchildlabour.Thisshortfilmisusedtoraiseawareness,as
mostofusarecompletelynaveaboutthefactthatchildlabourstillgoeson,
evenifitisnotaroundus.Inthiscase,thenarrativeisfocusedonayoung
boyinIndia,whoappearstobearoundtheageof710yearsoldthat
appearsveryinnocent.However,thereisatwistattheendofthisfilm,
whichfinallyrevealsthefocus/purposeofthefilmChildLabour.

Thefirstsceneofthisshortfilm,thereisauseofawideangleshot,this
allowsustoobservethelocationthattheyoungboyisatwhichwasona
sideofaroad.Thesceneconveystheyoungboyarrivingatawall,whichis
fullofpostersoffamousBollywoodactorsandupcomingeventstaking
place.Theuseofthewideshotisusedtoemphasisejusthowsmalltheboy
iscomparedtothemassivewallbehindhim(whichmaysymbolisethe
world).Healsoarrivesonabike,whichisquitebiggerthanheis,soit
allowsustoassumethatitbelongstoanadult.

Behindtheyoungboyarepostersofallthesefamousandimportantpeople
thathelooksuptoandidolise;weseethisbyhimimitatingtheimageson
theposters.Butaswecometorealiseitisclearthatthesedreamsmaynever
becomeareality,ashisrealitynowissofarfetchedfromwherehewantsto
be.Knowingthatheisavictimofchildlaboursuggestshisdreamsand
hopesarealltakenfromhimfromsuchayoungage.Thiscausesthe
audiencetosympathisewiththeinnocentboywhoisunawareofhowcruel
theworldcanbe.Moreover,theboysinnocenceisfurtheremphasisedin
thebeginningofthescenewherehecomestothewallwhistlingand
carefree,thissuggestjusthowunawareheisofhisexploitation,ratherthan
beingatschooltopreparehimforthisfutureheisoutonthestreetssticking
uppostersforfree.

Weareabletoseethattheyoungboyslabourismeaninglessandhasno
value,thismayreflectontohislifetoo.Duetothefactthatassoonasthe
boyfinishedstickingupthepostersamangoestothewalltourinateonit,
theboypleadsyoulooklikeaneducatedperson,Ijuststuckthepostersit
hasnotevendriedyetthisconnotesthattheboyslabourhasno
appreciationandmeaningagainhighlightinghisexploitation.Beforethiswe
sawthroughtheuseofamidangletheboysfaceafterhestuckdownthe
poster,hehasabigsmileonhisfacedisplayingthatheisveryproudofhis
workbutthereisnothingtocomefromallhishardwork.
Fromtheyoungboysappearance,itisveryclearthathecomesfroma
deprivedbackground,hisclothingisverybasicandtheuseofthemidangle
tiltshotallowsustoseethathecannotevenaffordshoestowear.Thissame
scenethereisacloseupusedoftheboyshandwhilstheisputtingglue
ontotheposterswithhisbarehands,thisshotallowsustoseetheimpactof
usingchemicalshishandswerecompletelywornoutforaboyhisage.
Thereisalsoauseofhighangleshot,whentheboygoestosticktheposter
ontothewall,heappearsasveryvulnerablehelplessandexposed.

Goingbacktothebike,whentheboyisgettingreadytoleavethescene
thereisauseofhandheldcamera,thisisveryshakyandunbalanced,just
likethebikeheusesaformoftransport,itisverybigforhimandcomes
acrossasasafetyhazardonthebusyroads.

Theuseofapoignantheartfeltundiegeticmusicrisestheaudiences
emotionstheneedforchange,thisisgivenawayintheeditingchoiceofthe
youngboybeingblurredoutashewalksawaytohisnextdestination,the
useofblurconnotesthatheisjustoneofthemillionsfacelesschildrenwho
arevictimsofchildlabourbutwecontinuouslyturnablindeyeasitisa
matterthatisveryrealandchallengingforsomeofustofaceorevensolve.
Theshortfilm,attheendgoesontoshowamoreexamplesofchildlabour
takingplaceinaslideshowofimages,suchasstickingposterstoanextreme
caseofchildprostitution.Thesewereallreallifeimagesofvictims.
