Scene 1

Enter on an empty school hallway, sunset is shown through the windows

Lucy is strutting the halls, admiring the artwork, she likes what she sees. Lucy comes
across a picture of the principle and some students at a service project(including Adam
and Evelyn), and her face turns cold. She has finalised her decision to destroy Gods
creation.
 Scene 2
Adam and Evelyn are studying in the school library, the sun is rising, they have been
there for a long time

Evelyn
(Frustrated) We should just split the work and do our parts individually.

Adam
There isnt much left to do, we can just finish it out together.

Evelyn
Sometimes its better to be alone.

Adam
I can see that, but we are both a little fried, so if you want to take a break, we can.

Evelyn
(not happy with Adams response) Im gonna go get some coffee.

Adam
Yeah okay, / just make sure not to get into any trouble, you know Raf warned us that things
have been tense recently with the social groups.

Evelyn
Are you seriously doubting my ability to take a walk without running into trouble?

Adam
No of course not, I just think maybe I should come with you so you have backup in case anyone
tries to approach you.

Evelyn
(this close to hitting Adam in the face) Well maybe the temptation will just serve to show how
strong I am without you.

Adam
(absolutely clueless) Yeah thats true, it is important for us to face challenges in life, and social
challenges are a special part of high school.

Evelyn
(rolls eyes)
Ok Dr Phil Im leaving.
Evelyn walks off. Adam is still a clueless nerd and just gets back to the project.
 Scene 3
Lucy sees Evelyn and is stunned for a few second as Evelyn passes by her, but quickly
recuperates and saunters up to Evelyn.
Lucy whistles to get Evelyns attention, but Evelyn ignores her.
Lucy
Hey! Long time no see!

Evelyn
No offense, but I feel like that greeting would require that we were ever friends. Why are you
even talking to me?

Lucy
Look, Im not gonna pretend that you belong at the level youre at.

Evelyn
The level Im at what are you talking about?

Lucy
Youre beautiful, hot even, and someone with your looks doesnt belong to any man, you should
be adored by many.

Evelyn
You sound like a psychopath.

Lucy
Dont say that! Youre being so rude, what have I ever done to you except compliment you?

Evelyn
(sincere, change of tone)
Im sorry, Ill let you finish.

Lucy
Hey, you belong up with me, these nerds dont know how good they have it with you around,
and life is so much better with us.

Evelyn
If thats true then why does the principal always warn me about you?

Lucy
The principle doesnt want you to enjoy high school. In fact, hed probably be impressed that
you decided to enjoy yourself rather than remain in the dark. Besides, look at me! Im in the
Cobras and Im having the time of my life!
 Evelyn
I guess youre right

(Lucy smiles, she knows shes got Evelyn in her grasp now.)

Evelyn
(beat)I want to join, so I just, like sit with you guys now?

Lucy
Yeah! But there is one thing you have to do before you can join us...

Evelyn
Ok, what? Do I have to sign something saying I wont release party secrets?

Lucy
(unamused, focused on her prey)
You have to show the rest of the school that youre with us.

Evelyn
Does the table sitting not establish that?

Lucy
Belial sits with us, but hes not one of us. Hell, even Abdiel sat with us for a while.

(Pan to Evelyn listening,

back to Lucy)

Lucy
But everyone knows neither of them are really one of us. Nah, theres a certain ritual if you will.

Evelyn
Thats ok, I mean I do want respect.

Lucy
And you deserve it! Anyway, you know Kenneth-

Evelyn
Yeah

Lucy
Well, you just need to prove to him that youre one of us, easy enough
 Evelyn
Ok, so see you at lunch
 Scene 4
Evelyn heads back to the library when she sees Kenneth, in the corner of the hallway, she spots
Lucy (who nods to her and motions for her to go for it.
Evelyn approaches Kenneth)

Evelyn
Hey Ken

Kenneth
Hi Evelyn, are you prepared for the Calc test?

Evelyn
Damn, youre really tied up about school, huh?

Kenneth
What?

Evelyn
I mean, youve got to be, havent you? Theres got to be something to distract you from the fact
that you cant get a girlfriend.

Kenneth
Where is this coming-

Evelyn
But its not like you havent tried! This whole school knows youve been rejected by every girl
youve ever asked out, not to mention the crush on me that you have even though Adam is
always nice to you!

Kenneth
What the-

Kenneth runs off sniffling

Evelyn remains where she was, Lucy walks next to her and as she passes her by

Lucy
See you at lunch, and bring your plus one.
 Scene 5
Library, Adam is still working
Evelyn walks back to Adam
As Evelyn walks to him, many student side-eye her and whisper to each other

Adam
Do you know why everyone is looking at you?

Evelyn
Dude, Lucy got me into the Cobras.

Adam
What do you mean? Didnt Rafael warn us that something like this would happen?

Evelyn
Of course he did, he doesnt want us to have the power we could have. I know so much more
about how the world works now, Adam, and you could too.

Adam
What?

Evelyn
Lucy said you could come sit with us, I mean you have to do something first but its not a big
deal

Adam
Why would I want to sit with them?

Evelyn
Them? You mean me! You do want to stay with me, right?

Adam
Of course! But, Principal G-

Evelyn
Cant make you as happy as I can, you and I were made for each other

Adam considers
Adam
Ill do it. What am I doing?

Evelyn
Who bugs you?
 Adam
Well you know who bugs me, those jerks who always pick on you and I.

Evelyn
Well, show them that youre a Cobra now, who wont be messed with.

Adam
What, like hit them?

Evelyn
You can do it.

Adam
Are you insane? Theyre so much bigger than me!

Evelyn
Listen, I dont make the rules, but you cant be a Cobra if theres still someone in this school
who thinks they can mess with you.

Adam
What did you do?

Evelyn
I put Kenneth in his place.

Adam
You beat up Kenneth?!

Evelyn
No way! I just said what everyone already knew, its his if fault he cant handle the truth.

Adam
I guess, thats who we are now.

Evelyn
Who we are is respected.

Adam
Yeah I guess, and those guys have been screwing with me for a while.

Evelyn
And they dont respect you.
 Adam
Yeah

Evelyn
No one does, and thats not right.

Adam
(getting heated)
No, its not, and they treat me like garbage, thinking they can just get away with it, thinking Ill
never fight back...

Evelyn nods, she knows Adam will go with the plan

Adam
I wont let those bullies go another day thinking that Im some defenseless that Im
defenseless.

Evelyn bites her tongue from commenting

Evelyn
Come on Adam, lets go prove to this school that we arent some stupid pushovers.
 Scene 6
Hallway
Adam sees the two bullies, he angrily charges at them

Adam
HEY!

Bully 1
What? Is little Adam really picking a fight?

Adam
What does it look like?

Bully 2
Woah looks like weve got a smart-ass, thats new.

Adam
Youll do best to watch what you say from now on.

Person in Crowd
Whats gotten into Adam? He sounds insane.

Adam throws the first punch, fight ensues

The crowd grows
Improv lines during fight, taunting and enraged
Both boys miraculously end up on the floor, Adam looks down to his fist, his knuckles
are cut
Adam walks away from the scene, the shocked crowd watches him leave without a sound
 Scene 7
Classroom, first period
Adam and Evelyn are sitting in class

Intercom(womans voice)
Adam Elkan and Evelyn Dajana report to the principles office, Adam Elkan and Evelyn Dajana
report to the principles office.

Students whisper

Adam
Do you think were in trouble?

Evelyn
(sarcastic)No, hes probably just wanting to chat.

Adam
Im serious.

Evelyn
Its whatever, we can just say we didnt do it, hell believe it if we just bluff.

Adam
Ok, lets go

Screen goes black, over audio is heard

Intercom(womans voice)
Adam Elkan and Evelyn Dajana report to the principles office, Adam Elkan and Evelyn Dajana
report to the principles office

Hallway
Adam and Evelyn are walking to the office

Adam
Evelyn, I dont feel good about this

Evelyn begins to talk, but Adam interrupts

Adam
People dont respect us, Eve, they fear us.

Evelyn
I know.

Adam
What?!

Evelyn
I know! Ok, I made a mistake. Its done theres nothing we can do about it!

Adam
Ok? But now were in trouble and its your fault! What are we going to do?

Evelyn
I know its my fault! You dont have to keep repeating it, dont you know I feel bad?

Adam
Hey, Im not trying to make you feel bad

Evelyn
Well you are

Evelyn
Im sorry, I know I messed up, Im just stressed about this, Ive never been in trouble before. Im
sorry

Adam
Neither have I, I get it

Evelyn
Ok, weve gotta bluff
 Adam
But how?

Evelyn
Well, like you said, weve never done anything like this before, so whos to say that this all isnt
just a rumor?

Adam
Ok

Evelyn
I mean, what track record do we even have except perfect grades and annual Christmas gifts to
all our teachers? We are perfect students, no one is going to believe wed take some random
lapse, especially Mr. G.

Adam
Yeah, ok, lets do this
 Scene 9
Principal's office
Adam and Evelyn walk in, seemingly cool and collected

Evelyn
You asked to see us?

Principal
Yes, I understand that you two have broken school rules.

Adam
What? When have we ever done that?

Principal
The punishment for both of which is expulsion, Id say Im sorry but frankly Im quite
dissapointed.

Evelyn
But what did we do? Were great students!

Principal
Were. You were great students. Dont be too upset, this is policy and theres nothing else that
can be done

Both students sit there, stunned, neither says anything

Principal
(into the desk phone)
Can you get Mr. C in here?

After a short time, the door opens to reveal the school counselor
Principal stands up to greet him

Principal
Mr. C! I trust you are familiar with the case at hand. Students, Im going to step out while your
counselor goes through some things with you

Principal leaves through the same door. Counselor sits behind the desk in the principals
chair.

Counselor
Hey, guys, why so stiff, the worst has passed
 Adam
We thought wed be respected, now we have to hide whenever we feel bad, or

Counselor
Let me stop you, what do you mean by you have to hide when you feel bad, you guys lashed
out and now you have to pay the consequences.

Adam
Well, its like, before we could stay innocent, now Ive literally punched people and Evelyn
bullied Kenneth, we cant be innocent anymore

Counselor
How do you know you were innocent before?

Adam
Well we didnt know before, but now its so obvious; i mean in the literal sense we were both
innocent of ever doing what we did today, but i think what I mean is that we used to be able to
be, like, nice, and stay out of things, now we cant act like we arent able to punch someone or
that we arent mean.

Counselor
And why did you do those things?

Adam
Well I mean Evelyn and I havent been the most solid lately, and there is a lot of pressure on
both of us, and I just want us to work and for Evelyn to be happy, but when she says she wants
to do work separately it just kinda makes me feel bad, so when she told me we could be happy
together it sounded like the best option.

Counselor
So, what are you saying?

Evelyn has been quiet this whole time, and remains stiff during this revelation

Adam
Evelyn told me to hit those guys

Counselor
(turning to Evelyn)
Is this true?

Evelyn
Yes
 Counselor
Well, Adam, you didnt have to listen, you are on ASB for your leadership skills, not your ability
to give in to pressure. Evelyn, why did you do it?

Evelyn
Lucy told me that if I did it, Id be respected, appreciated, happier.

Counselor
Well, now its on your permanent record. Ill give you access to a therapist, someone who can
help you regain standing in your new school, but thats much more than I am supposed to do,
you can get your stuff and go.
 Scene 10
Cafeteria, the Cobras table

Cobra 1
Hey, did you hear about evelyn and adam?

Cobra 2
Yeah, haha seems like Lucy was successful

Cobra 1
I can feel it, she tore down those goody-two-shoes

Cobra 2
Here she comes!

Lucy saunters over to the table

Lucy
(feigned nonchalance)Hey guys

Cobra 2
So?

Lucy
(same tone)Oh right! / Those losers are expelled for sure.

Cobras celebrate

Intercom
Luciana Gethen, please report to the principals office.
 Scene 11
In front of the school
Lucy and the Cobras are leaving the school, looking dejected, the two cobras from the
previous scene are not among them.

Scene 12
In a school hallway
The two Cobras are standing smugly in the corner of a hallway of fighting teenagers.
They caused this anarchy.
 Scene 13
Principals Office
Principal and counselor are sitting across from each other

Principal
(getting up)
Its all Adams fault, if he hadnt gone off the rails this school wouldnt be in turmoil.

Cut to

In a park
Adam and Evelyn are sitting on a bench together

Adam
I mean, the whole school is a complete mess now! Any kids with potential are going to come to
this school and be shunned, theyll hate me and what Ive done.

Cut

Principal
I gave them everything! I was their mentor, I saw that they got the classes they wanted, I
planned out their success and how do they repay me?

Cut

Adam
-by spitting in the face of a guy who had only ever pushed us to our potential! God, I wish I was
dead. I wish this whole thing could just stop right now, then no more kids would have to go to
that school and we wouldnt have to face the failures that well become.

Cut

Principal
They knew what was expected of them, I made that very clear. I didnt force them into anything,
they just had to be good kids, was that really so much to ask?

Cut

Adam
And we couldnt do that one simple thing? Not get in trouble, he was right to expel us, we
deserve it.
 Evelyn
Im so sorry.

Adam
(beat)Ill bet you are! Go away, you dont care about anything but yourself, well you got what
you wanted! The whole school knows that were so cool! Were so cool that we got ourselves
kicked out, were so cool that we bullied our classmates. Were those kids. You know that right?
Were the kids that parents warn their kids about, you realise that thats what youve made us-

Evelyn
(defensive)
YES I DO! I realise that I messed up, that I was weak, that I was, am, a terrible girlfriend, and I
realise that I dont deserve to even be here right now! Is that what you want to hear? Well, its
the truth, Im sorry-

Adam
You know, youre right! You are a terrible girlfriend, you made me feel like I wasnt enough for
you! It was a stupid idea to even get a girlfriend, I cant believe I was so ignorant!

Evelyn
(change of tone, breaking down)
Adam! (falls to the floor) Im so sorry, Adam! I was selfish, I didnt think of you! But if theres any
way that you can forgive me, I swear I will never, ever do anything to harm you again.

Adam
(change of tone, realizing that theres no point to anymore yelling)
Evie, of course. (beat)

Adam picks Evelyn up from the floor and brushes her hair out of her face. They embrace
for a while, and Evelyn begins to dry her tears.

Evelyn
We could just end it. We could leave, you know, figuratively, no ones going to be at home for a
while and my moms pills are in-

Adam
Evelyn, no. We are going to get through this, figuratively. Ending it would mean that Lucy won,
and we cant have that, right?

Evelyn
Lucy seriously does not matter. Its us who have to live with ourselves after this.

Adam
No, its her, too. She did this to tear us down. Shell be watching to see if we crumble. We have
to work, fight to get back up.

Evelyn
But how can we get back up? No reputable college is going to accept two expelled kids.

Adam
So we dont go to a reputable college, so we have to work twice as hard, Bill Gates was a
dropout!

Evelyn
There are so many reasons why that is not a parallel to our situations.

Adam
Laughs
There you go! See, well be ok, we just have to work at it. The principal still gave us a therapist,
and he still wants us to succeed, well be ok.
