TEACHING GUIDE
Grade Level Standard

At the end of Grade 9, the learner is expected to demonstrate the


fundamental concepts and skills in Beauty Care (Nail Care) Services which
leads to National Certificate Level II (NC II). It covers on the Process and
Delivery the learners should recognize, keeping in mind the end goal to the
sustainable use of resources and to economic productivity.

Learning Competencies

Explain the core concepts and principles of manicure and pedicure, hand
spa and foot spa
Discuss topics which relate to Beauty Care (Nail Care Services) as a
course
Explore job/entrepreneurial opportunities for beauty care services

Content Standard

The learner demonstrates understanding concepts and principles in


beauty care (nail care) services.

Performance Standard

The learner independently performs beauty care (nail care) services.

I. INTRODUCTION

As facilitator of learning, it is your responsibility to help the learners


understand the knowledge they need about Beauty Care (Nail Care) Services
through the utilization of this Learners Materials. Ask the learners about the
most common services offered in the salon as well as the added services to
manicure and pedicure.
This course aims to develop the knowledge, values, skills and interest
of the learners about Nail Care. The concepts and skills that will be developed
along the way can be of great help to the learners because the learning that
will take place during the course of the study can help the learners to hone
their talents and develop their skills in nail care services into a profitable
source of income.

II. OBJECTIVES

Guided by the teacher and the learners materials, the learner is


expected to:
1. Apply hand treatment;
2. Perform post hand activity;
3. Apply foot spa;
4. Perform post foot spa activity;
5. Clean finger nails and toe nails;
6. Perform basic nail designs; and
7. Create fancy nail designs

III. DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT

Diagnostic Assessment is given to determine the prior knowledge of


learners in terms of the competencies they need to develop in the entire
module. Guide the learners in accomplishing this initial activity before going
through the learners materials.

IV. PRE-TEST

A 20-item pre-test will be given in every quarter to determine the


knowledge of learners in terms of the competencies they need to develop.

Ask the learners to use separate sheet of paper or quiz notebook for
their answers.

V. PARTS OF THE LESSON

A. KNOW
- This part of the learners materials contains activities that will
activate prior knowledge of the learner; it elicits tentative responses
through provocative and critical questions essential to the
development of understanding.
- Make sure learners are engaged in doing given activities and give
assistance to the students where needed.

B. PROCESS
- In this phase, learners are provided with various learning activities
that will require the learners to make sense of the information;
assess the learners skills; and questions that will enable learners to
construct their own meaning/ understandings and express these in
their own way.

C. REFLECT AND UNDERSTAND


- In this phase, other learning resources and experiences for your
learners are provided to enrich/broaden their understanding of the
lesson through additional activities, reading resources, and
provocative or critical questions to draw learners' core of
understanding.

D. TRANSFER
- In this part, learners are expected to transfer his/her learning
through a product or performance through the given various
activities provided in each lesson

- The learners will demonstrate the various competencies required for


each lesson.

VI. PROCESS AND DELIVERY
Lesson 1
Perform Hand Spa
A. Know Perform Hand Spa

-You can use power point presentation and real


objects in the discussion of the different topics.

-Provide demonstration in hand massage, hand


spa treatment, and post hand spa activity.

Labeling Learners will label the parts of the


given illustration.

Identification Learners will identify the


structures of nail.
Matching Type Learners will match the
diseases, disorders and conditions of nail with
its corresponding description.

Identification Learners will identify the tools,


supplies and equipment needed in giving hand
spa.

B. Process Classroom-Based Activity in Hand Massage

-The learners will prepare the necessary tools


and materials for the activity.

-The learners must be able to do the assigned


activity to 5 students (Number of patrons/clients
are given in each activity)

-The performance of the learners will be


evaluated based from the given rubrics of
performance.

Arranging the Steps Chronologically

Learners will arrange the steps about basic
hand and arm massage techniques and hand
spa in order.

C. Reflect and Essay/Situational Analysis Learners will


Understand analyze the situations and answer the given
questions.

D. Transfer Project Plan Making - requires detailed and


vital documentation to track activity
requirements, functionalities, scheduling and
budget. Poor documentation can lead to
disastrous results for all projects. Formal and
clear project plan establish detailed project
requirements including human and financial
resources.

- Learners will accomplish Project Plan in


every activity.

Classroom-Based Activity in Hand Spa


Treatment
- Students will be grouped with 6 members in
each group. Each student must be able to do
the hand spato five (5) students who belong
to their group.

- Perform the steps in hand spa treatment.

Home Activity in Hand and Arm Massage


- - Transfer of learning can also be done outside
the classroom. Learners will perform hand and
arm massage with other friends and neighbors
(at least 2). Their client outside will be the one
to evaluate the performance of the learners
based from the given criteria with proper
documentation.
Lesson 2
Perform Foot Spa

A. Know Perform Foot Spa

-Provide demonstration in foot massage, foot


spa and post foot spa activity.

Identification Learners will identify the tools,


supplies and equipment used in giving foot spa

Matching Type - The learners will match the


picture in Column A with its corresponding
steps in Column B by writing the letter of the
answer.

B. Process Classroom-Based Activity in Foot Massage

- Students will be grouped with 6 members in


each group. Each student must be able to do
the foot massage to five (5) students who
belong to their group.

- The learners will refer to the given Rubric for


Performance and accomplish the Project
Plan

C. Reflect and Essay - Read the statement carefully. In not less than
Understand 5 sentences, the learners will answer the questions
based from their understanding about foot spa
treatment.

D. Transfer Classroom-Based Activity in Foot Spa


Treatment

- Students will be grouped with 6 members in


each group. Each student must be able to do
the foot spa treatment to five (5) students
who belong to their group.

- The learners will refer to the given Rubric for


Performance and accomplish the Project

Home Activity in Foot Massage - Transfer of
learning can also be done outside the
classroom. Learners will perform foot spa with

Lesson 3
PERFORM MANICURE AND PEDICURE

A. Know Perform Manicure and Pedicure

-Provide demonstration or video presentation


on how to use the different equipment,
implements, cosmetics and materials in giving
manicure and pedicure services.

Identification The learners will identify the


different shapes of nail.

Setting Up Manicure Table - Learners will


choose a partner and demonstrate how to set
up the manicure table.

Classroom-Based Activity in Cleaning


Fingernails and Toenails - Learners will
choose a partner and perform the steps in
cleaning fingernails and toenails and once
finished, their partner will perform the same
steps and evaluate the performance based from
the given criteria.

Arranging the Steps Chronologically


-Learners will arrange the steps in cleaning
fingernails and toenails.

Windowpane Activity - Windowpaning is the


process of transferring key elements, points, or
steps in a lesson into visual images that are
hand sketched into the squares or panes. Let
your mind think in pictures and sketch the

essential concepts printed in each of the
following windowpanes. Any kind of drawing will
do to depict the concepts requested to be
drawn in their notebook.

B. Process Basic Designs in Spoon The learners will


make the different nail designs in small spoon
(sundae spoon/stirrer).

Classroom Based Activity in Plain Manicure


- Students will be grouped with 6 members in
each group. Each student must be able to do
the activity in plain manicure to five (5) students
who belong to their group.

C. Reflect and Completion Statements: Open-Ended


Understand
- Learners will complete the given open ended-
statements on their notebook.

D. Transfer - Classroom Based Activity in Applying Basic


Nail Designs (Halfmoon, Halfmoon with Tip,
French Tip and Elephant Tusk Nail Designs)

- Students will be grouped with 6 members in


each group. Each student must be able to do
the basic nail designs to five (5) students who
belong to their group.

- The learners will refer to the given Rubric for


Performance and accomplish the Project Plan

Home Activity in Basic Nail Designs


-Learners will perform manicure and pedicure
applying basic nail designs with other friends
and neighbors. Their client outside will be the
one to evaluate the performance of the learners
based from the given criteria with proper
documentation.

Lesson 4
Create Fancy Nail Designs

A. Know Create Fancy Nail Designs

Make your Own Learners will create an


improvised image Template to be used in nail
art stamping.

Classroom Based Activity in Water Marbling


The learners will prepare the needed tools,
cosmetics and materials to be used in water
marbling and practice how to create designs in
the water using different color of nail polish by
following the given steps.

Identification Learners will identify the


different nail designing tools used in creating
fancy nail designs.

B. Process Steps in creating fancy nail designs - The


learners will write the steps in creating fancy
nail designs based from their understanding.

C. Reflect and ESSAY Let the learners express your ideas


Understand by answering the given questions about
creating fancy nail designs.

D. Transfer Classroom-Based Activity in Nail Stamping


- Learners will make their own improvised
template or design in plastic sliding folder and
create fancy designs to the nails of their chosen
partner.

Classroom-Based Activity in Creating Fancy


Nail Designs The learners will choose 3 of
their classmates and apply the steps in creating
fancy nail designs such as the use of nail art
accessories, nail art stamping and water
marbling

Classroom Based Activity in Freehand Nail
Art Designs Learners will prepare the
needed tools, materials and cosmetics in nail
art designing and choose 5 of their classmates
to create different freehand nail art design.

- Learners will use the Rubric of Performance


given and accomplish the Project Plan.

Culminating Activity - Putting up of Mini-


Parlor (optional)- Guide your students in
planning to put -up a mini parlor inside the
school campus. Assess the activity and always
remember that they will be rated using the
Rubric for Performance.

VII. SUMMARY

The knowledge and skills acquired by the learners in hand spa, foot
spa, manicure/pedicure and creating fancy nail designs can be of help to
them to augment personal income and become productive individuals. Upon
learning the fundamental concepts and skills, they are now ready to take and
earn the National Certificate (NC II) in Beauty Care (Nail Care) Services.
The competencies learned in Nail Care Services can provide
opportunities for the learners to be employed or put up their own salon.

VIII. GLOSSARY

The purpose of the glossary is to guide the teachers and the


learners to be equipped with the technical terms and be familiar with its
meaning. The glossary will serve as additional material that will guide the
learners practice of the skills learned in the course.
