output which is also functional. Where Art is often simply an output of ones feelings; Design
more often has economic utility.

Various kinds of Designs today are

Graphics Design:

A Graphic Designer uses computer software generated visuals, typography and page
layout to create a design for the customer.

Interior Design:

An Interior Designer designs the interiors of a building or any given space. The purpose is
to enhance the aesthetics or the utility of the room by creating a soothing interaction
between the space and the articles occupying it.

Fashion Design:

A Fashion Designer creates designed garments for people as per the season or styles in
trends. Clothes are not merely adorned to cover our bodies but now have become the
extension of ones personality and we often exhibit our being through the choice of our
clothes.

Accessory Design:

An Accessory Designer designs the accessories which we wear to be stylish as well as for
smaller utilities like a watch; a hair piece, footwear or even a cuff links.

Product Design:

A Product Designers biggest purpose behind any product design in to make it intuitively
innovative in usability. Hence, often a new product design is expected to be updated in
innovative-never-thought-before-ways than its older counterparts.
Industrial Design:

An Industrial Designers designs the process of manufacturing the products at a mass


level to increase the availability of the products for marketability as well as their
consumption. It involves products like automobiles, home appliances and other
appliances etc which are created using heavy duty and sophisticated machines.

Web Design:

A Web Designer designs exclusively for World Wide Web users. Their main area of
competence in Web Design includes Home Pages and related pages of the Static or
Dynamic Websites. Millions of people do business through online alone and these Web
Designers help these individuals as well as companies to reach out to their consumers.

Game Design:

A Game Designer designs the games typically played online using computer software
and hardware interface. Such a designer creates as many levels as possible with the aim
of enhancing the difficulty in successfully achieving the goal to keep it entertaining and
engaging for the consumer. High degree of animation, motional graphics and coding is
required to design a game and each game is tested multiple times before it is launched
in the market.

These designers apart from designing for their consumers also understand the protocols of their
industry and adhere to those principals which makes designing a successful vocation and
differentiates it from an abstract art.

Eligibility -

You need to be 10+2 to pursue Design courses whether a Degree or a Diploma. Nearly all good
design institutes conduct a Design based aptitude test for admission.

Designers are sought after and placements are available in numerous industries like Fashion
Industry in Garments, Footwear and Accessory Industry, Technology Industry like Consumer
Durables; Computing; Automobiles Industry like Two-Four wheelers etc.

Remuneration Remuneration depends upon reputation of the institution from where a


student is passing from. However, on an average a starting salary for a basic Design Graduate
ranges from Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- per month.

It is the study and application of a successful design that renders it its specialization and hence
while a successful designer is also a capable artist but without the professional knowledge a
successful artist may not be a capable designer which makes Design a complete study, a
vocation in itself which involves both creativity AND skill.
