WHAT IS RUNCEDS?
The Redeemer’s University has established a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development to be known
and called the “Redeemer’s University Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies
(RUNCEDS)” with vocational and skill acquisition sections. This document describes the activities
and program of the centre.

WHAT ARE THESE COURSES ABOUT?


Each course is unique to its skills and benefits; therefore we’ll be discussing what each course entails and
the job prospects for each of these courses.
1. BAG MAKING: Bag making is the art of constructing or assembling materials like
pieces of clothe to form a form of carrier which people carry things such as books, purses,
phones, etc. it is the act of creating a flexible container for carrying things. This can be
done by using a number of materials such as
- Pencils
- Ruler
- Sewing machines
- Sewing needle
- Dress maker pins
- Zippers, etc.

JOB PROSPECTS: anyone with qualification in hand bag making can go on to work as a

- Tailor
- Jeweler

2. BAKING, CAKES AND PASTRIES: Baking is the process of cooking with dry heat
in an oven, these can be done with the use of materials like:
- Measuring cups
- Spoons [wooden or iron]
- Whisk
- Rolling pin
- Baking pans
- Rubber spatula
- Mixer, etc.

JOB PROSPECTS: anyone with a baking qualification can go on to work as a:


- Bakery tutor
- Caterer
- Food stylist
- Test bakery or laboratory technician
- Product manager
- Plant supervisor, etc.

3. FASHION/ LADIES WEARS: Dress making is defined as the craft of sewing clothes
and dresses. It involves cutting and putting together material with the aim of making an
outfit. Materials used in dress making include:
- Sewing machine
- Pin cushion
- Thimble
- Ironing board
- Seam unpicker
- Scissors
- Chalk, etc.
JOB PROSPECTS: anyone will qualification in dress making/ female wears can go on to work
as:
- Fashion designer
- Garment technologist
- Textile designer
- Fashion illustrator
- Stylist
- Pattern cutter/ grader
- Personal stylist/ personal shopper, etc.
- A female wear designer can make an average of up to 20,000 per week, depending on the cost of
material and labor involved in making the clothes. An example of a clothing line/ owner that
makes quite an amount is Deola Sagoe or Ade Bakare couture.
1. GRAPHICS DESIGN: graphics design is the art of communication through images and
words, symbols. It is a visual communication to transmit messages to special groups/ a
target market with specific objectives. Graphic designers use materials like:
- Computers
- Smart phones
- Cameras
- Color reference tablets, etc.

JOB PROSPECTS: people with a graphic design qualification can go on to work as a;


- User experience [UX] designer
- User interface [UI] designer
- Art director
- Product developer
- Marketing specialist, etc.

6. WEBSITE DESIGN: Web design encompasses many different skills and disciplines in
the production and maintenance of websites. The different areas of web design include
web graphic design; user interface design; authoring, including standardized code and
proprietary software; user experience design; and search engine optimization. Instruments
used in website design include:

7. CODING/ PROGRAMMING: Computer programming is the process of designing and


building an executable computer program to accomplish a specific computing result or to
perform a specific task. Coding is the process of using a programming language to get a
computer to behave how you want it to.  Materials used in coding and programming
include:

- REPL program
- Great browser
- Database tools
- Rubber duck, etc.

8. DIGITAL MARKETING/ SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING: Digital marketing is the


component of marketing that utilizes internet and online based digital technologies such as
desktop computers, mobile phones and other digital media and platforms to promote products and
services. Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms and websites to
promote a product or service. Although the terms e-marketing and digital marketing are
still dominant in academia, social media marketing is becoming more popular for both
practitioners and researchers. Materials used in digital marketing include:
- Search Engine Optimization
- Paid Search: AdWords.
- Analytics.
- Social Media Marketing (PR and influencer)
- Email Marketing / Marketing Automation.
- Content Marketing.

9. HAIRDRESSING: A hairdresser is a person whose occupation is to cut or style hair in


order to change or maintain a person's image, Instruments used in hairdressing includes:
- Blow dryer
- Razor
- Sectioning clips
- Blending shears
- Curling iron
- Brushes and Combs, etc.

10. INTERIOR/ EXTERIOR DESIGN: is the art and science of enhancing the interior of


a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the
people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches,
coordinates, and manages such enhancement projects. Interior design is a multifaceted
profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections,
programming, and research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project,
construction management, and execution of the design. Materials used in interior and
exterior design are:
- Rawing/CAD Tools. Interior design plans on a table with a computer

- Digital Camera, etc.

11. MAKEUP/ MAKEOVER: Cosmetics are care substances used to enhance the
appearance or odor of the human body. They are generally mixtures of chemical
compounds, some being derived from natural sources, many being synthetic. Cosmetics
include skin-care creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail and toe nail
polish, eye and facial makeup, towelettes, permanent waves, colored contact lenses, hair
colors, hair sprays and gels, deodorants, hand sanitizer, baby products, bath oils, bubble
baths, bath salts, butters and many other types of products. A subset of cosmetics is called
"make-up," which refers primarily to coloring products intended to alter the user’s
appearance. Many manufacturers distinguish between decorative cosmetics and care
cosmetics. materials used during makeup include:

12. PHOTOGRAPHY: Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating durable
images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or
chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is the art
or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a
sensitive surface (such as film or an optical sensor). Materials used in photography
include:
- A Good Camera. The first piece of equipment you need to start a photography business is
a good camera

- Lighting
- Lenses
- Backdrops
- Props
- Studio Space, etc.

13. CLEANING AGENTS AND PRODUCTS: Purposes of cleaning agents include health,


beauty, removing offensive odor, and avoiding the spread of dirt and contaminants to
oneself and others. Some cleaning agents can kill bacteria (e.g. door handle bacteria, as
well as bacteria on worktops and other metallic surfaces) and clean at the same time.
Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause
headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous
chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other harmful ingredients
include ammonia and bleach. Materials used in production of cleaning agents are:
- Acetic acid (vinegar)
- Acetone (can damage plastics)
- Various forms of alcohol including isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol.
- Ammonia solution.
- Amyl nitrite and other nitrites.
- Borax.
- Calcium hypochlorite (powdered bleach)
- Carbon dioxide. Etc.
