DANCE: PROJECT - BASED LEARNING

INTRODUCTION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Welcome to the Project-Based Learning Unit in Dance! Project-based learning gives students the
chance to apply the skills they learn in class to personally relevant and real-world situations. Your
child also learns skills in PBL such as how to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and
make presentations. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in
today's work world.

In our project, student's will explore the importance of dance as a form of communication, a form
of art, and a form of expression. It is a lengthy process that will take attendance to in-class
rehearsals, time, dedication, focus, group work, and diligence to be successful. Students will have
homework, in-class research and assignments, and practice logs to complete daily. Please be on
the look-out for information and homework coming home.

The students will do research, create a dance concept for their class, present it, and vote on one
idea to create and perform at the dance concert.

PERFORMING IN THE CONCERT IS MANDATORY FOR ALL STUDENTS AND IS A MAJOR PORTION
OF THEIR GRADE. PLEASE BLOCK OUT THIS IMPORTANT DATE IMMEDIATELY!

Attendance to the concert is of the utmost importance! Be sure to attend this celebration of
learning and accomplishments and to invite all who are important to you and your child. The
students will be working hard and vigorously on their projects; they will be looking forward to
presenting them to you soon!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
UNIT DURATION: November 20 - December 15, 2017
PERFORMANCE DAY: Wednesday, December 14, 2017
PERFORMANCE TIME: 6pm
LOCATION: University City High School Auditorium
THEME: Dancing Through It

Students will be staying after school for regular activities and also to rehearse and help set-up;
dinner accommodations will be arranged for students in the concert. Parents will be notified
about this procedure as soon as possible. More details to come.
