Assessing Student Learning Assignment

Reflection

Assignment
The Assessing Student Learning Assignment of SPED 875 was an assignment that

required me to assess student learning based on present levels and goals. This assignment had

me look at analyzing student work samples to create a student-centered goal and measurement

tool, two lesson plans were written to target the student-centered goals, and collect and compare

student work samples to assess progress toward the learning target

Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to focus on Kansas State Standard 3: the teacher of

students with adaptive special education needs demonstrates assessment, diagnosis, and

evaluation knowledge and skills. This assignment ensured that as a special educator I could use

data to make instruction decision based on research-based instruction and UDL strategies. It is

essential that special educators be able to use data to make decisions and plan lessons.

Revision

Based on my instructors feedback I edited my assignment for grammar and spelling

mistakes, but received 100% on the assignment, so I did not make any content changes.

Professional Development

As a resource teacher, a large part of my job is creating lessons and writing IEP goals

based on present levels of performance. I am very passionate about the program that I used as

my intervention for this project and helping dyslexic students as a whole. This project allowed

me to explore the multisensory phonics program in more depth and analyze the research

surrounding it. This assignment also allowed me to me to analyze personal data collected over

the year using the program as an intervention. I will continue to use this successful intervention

with my students and utilize the knowledge of data collection and analysis to form successful

interventions for all my students.
