REFLECTIVE JOURNAL LEARNING (WEEK 8: AUGUST 7-9, 2017)

1.) What I have learned in this week?

We discussed about operations on functions. The operation functions are consist of sum
of two functions, difference of two functions, product of two functions and quotient of
two different functions. The sum of two functions is f+g, the difference f-g, the product

fg and the quotient whose domains are all real numbers common to the domain of f and
g. The following operation of functions defined as follows; Sum: (f+g)(x)=f(x) = g(x),
()
Difference: (f-g)(x)=f(x) (g), Product: (fg)(x)= f(x) * g(x) and (x) = (), where
g(x)0. When solving every operation on functions, the first step are define first the sum,
difference, product and quotient of function in each problems. Second is combining the
like terms. Third is performing the indicated operation. The following are the example of
each operation of functions:
Let f(x)= 3x-2 and g(x)= x+2x-3
Find the:
Sum of Functions
a.) (f+g)= f(x) + g(x)
= (3x-2) + (x+2x-3), Replace the f(x) and g(x)
= x+5x-5
Difference of Functions
b.) (f-g)= f(x) g(x)
= (3x-2) - (x+2x-3), Replace the f(x) and g(x)
=3x-2- x-2x+3, Combine like terms and subtract
=- x+x+1
Product of Functions
c.) (fg)(x)= (3x-2) (x+2x-3), Replace the f(x) and g(x)
=3x (x+2x-3) - 2 (x+2x-3), Apply the distributive property
=3x+6x-9x-2x-4x=6, Combine like terms
=3x+4x-13x+6
Quotient of Functions
32 32
d.) ()(x)= 2 +23 = (+3)(3)

The domain of is the set of all real numbers except -3 and 1: {x | x 1}
2.) What did I think but was not able to learned in this lesson?

What is the correct order of operations?

3.) What did I do and how I think/feel about this?

I actually searched for it and somehow I found an answer to my question.

4.) How do I apply the topics I learned in real-life?

Business Management actually use it when computing profit. For me, I can apply and use
this topic in the future for example is, when I open a business. It can be a big help for me
and for my business.

5.) What question/s I need to ask in relation to the topics/lessons discussed?

Can we use PEMDAS when solving operation on functions? How? When do we use it?
