In the Liceo Bicentenario de nias de Maipu there are a lot of problems about environment such as a

few green areas, waste of water, trash in the toilets and classrooms, etc. In this occasion, we will focus
in the excrements of pigeons, because its the most serious problem in the school community. Then, we
will show why is important worried about this problem and how to solve it.

In this moment, the situation about the pigeons is very difficult, because after some time an
overpopulation was generated due to they find a place to create their nest. This has brought problems
like: first, the accumulation of pigeons excrements has generated bad smells in the classrooms, in
consequence this bring problems in the concentration of the students and their performance. Second,
the pigeons excrements have brought problems with respect to the ground, because they have an acid
pH and when these accumulate cause infertile on the earth. This fact does not allow vegetation to risen
up. Thirdly, the pigeons cause damage to infrastructure and this can generate accidents, falls and
injuries. Fourthly, the pigeons have many parasites and can infect many diseases. Also, the pigeons
singing (in special to the first hours at the morning) and the sound of pigeons while they are flying is very
annoying, therefore, produce deconcentration in the teachers and students. Another fact to consider is
the construction of nests could, in the future, obstruct the passage of water. For these reasons, the
Liceo Bicentenario de nias de Maipu has become an uncomfortable and insecure place to educate us.

We must concentrate on solving these problems and to do it we need implementing barbed wire over
the roof and windows of the school to avoid that the pigeons rest in these places and that they leave our
school and do not return to form their nests in this place so they do not bother more to the students
and teachers. Other solution is gather old CDs to put them in the roof and thus light reflects them and
scare the pigeons. Finally, if none of the above works, our last solution would be to call the Ministerio
de Salud to send a group of experts to control overpopulation of pigeons in our school.

In conclusion, this problem provokes a lot of problems to the structure of the school and could cause
serious illness in people who work and study in this place. The student community work together to
overcome this problem and collect the money and things to do it. The most important thing is to change
this situation NOW because its affects us all equally. To achieve this, we plan to do meetings to get
support from all students so everyone will know the seriousness of the situation and how this affects
our health and education. This will help raise awareness to resolve this situation because we can do it if
we work together. We cannot continue studying under these conditions because our health is in danger,
we must do something.
