Exercise 3- MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL

a) Initial stage of design calculation Angle -90 Degree Without Ambient Current
MUTWAL

Figure 01: Initial Dilution Pattern MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL Without Ambient Current 90 Deg. (Pipe
Diameter was changed as one meter for clarity).

Surface Layer (Centre) Level = 9.99 M

Above Discharge Port - Average Dilution = 56.11

Computations Cease: Plume Hits Water Surface

Average Dilution at Water Surface = 68.88

The obtained dilution value is less than 100 and because of the zero ambient current
and shallow outfall depth. To increase the value vertical angle to be changed whereas
depth of the outfall cannot be changed.
The value of 100.23 was obtained after few trials at 32 Degree angle.

Exercise 3- MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL

Figure 02: Initial Dilution Pattern - MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL 32 Deg.

Surface Layer (Centre) Level = 9.46 M

Above Discharge Port - Average Dilution = 78.75
Computations Cease: Plume Hits Water Surface
Average Dilution at Water Surface = 100.23

Exercise 3- MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL

b) Ambient vale is 0.1 m/s -Initial Dilution Increased.

Figure 03: Dilution Pattern - MUTWAL SEA OUTFALL Ambient Current 0.1 m/s

Surface Layer (Centre) Level = 8.47 M

Above Discharge Port- Average Dilution = 152.53
Computations Cease: Plume Hits Water Surface
Average Dilution at Water Surface = 279.47

Observation
It was observed that when the ambient current is increased to .01 m/s from zero, the
dilution value was increased 2.8 times.
