SMALL POX

VARIOLA VIRUS
- member of genus Orthopoxvirus
-Poxviridae family
- linear, double-stranded DNA virus

STRUCTURE
- brick-shaped, with a membranous
envelope from host cell
-dumbbell-shaped core

OTHER SYMPTOMS
TRANSMISSION
It spreads from contact with infected -fever
persons. It can also be spread through direct -headache
contact with infected bodily fluids or other -vomiting
contaminated objects.

-pustular rash and scabs -milkmaids who had cowpox before
-small bumps were immune to smallpox
-skin lesions across face and body -inoculated against cowpox means
