Lesson idea implementation

After I introduce the standard, students will then be asked What is a star? How big are stars? and Can
anyone tell me how bright a star is? We will have a short discussion that answers some of those questions.
Next, students will then be shown the PowerPoint presentation that I have created. After being shown the
PowerPoint, they will be introduced to their project.

For this lesson, students will be creating an animated presentation featuring a star or star cluster of their
choice. For their presentation, they may use Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, or another form of productivity
tool. Their presentation will include: name of star, size, location, brightness (if possible), and pictures (if
possible). The lesson will take approximately 45 minutes-1 hour to complete. Students will be assessed on
their completion of the presentation as well as completion of narration. Students should spend a decent
amount of time making their presentation full of color, pictures, and different effects.

Once students are completed with their presentations, the presentations will be uploaded to the classroom
website. This gives students the chance to listen to themselves as well as the other students talk about the
differences between the stars they researchedtying back to our standard. In order to extend student
learning to a higher level, the class will take a field trip to the Fernbank Science Center. There, students will
learn even more about the stars and space. To conclude the lesson, we will review the standard as a class and
I will ask the same sorts of questions I asked at the beginning of the lesson. Students will raise their hands to
answer the questions and the presentations will stay up on the website for them to review whenever they
would like.
