Summary (Guidelines i & ii)

Write a five-sentence long summary that states: a) the problem addressed by the article (the "topic"); b)
the article's method of analysis; c) the article's conclusions and/or recommendations. Remember, if you
record any direct quotes or use paraphrases (not your own words/ideas) be sure to include the page
number where this information came from.

The author discusses the Abortion act 1967, which legalizes abortions by registered practitioners and regulates
the tax-paid provision of such medical practices through the NHS. She regards this act as a sedimented discourse
because it treats women as vulnerable and doctors as paternalistic, and says this is bad for both anti-abortion
groups and pro-choice feminists. For the former, their opposition to the Act means that they may easily be
regarded as against helping vulnerable women. For the latter, they need to defend the Act which describes
women as vulnerable and irrational. And, one possible solution is to alter the frame of the debate by creating a
new medicalized regime of abortion.

Assessment and reflection (Guidelines iii & iv)

Now write a few sentences evaluating the source and assessing its usefulness for your research goals

I think this source is this useful because both anti-abortion groups and pro-choice feminists opinions are
written. Im planning to constitute my essay by comparing pro-choice groups arguments with anti-abortion
groups arguments, so this clarified the images of my final essay.
