BFC 34303 Civil Engineering Statistics

Sem I 2017/2018

Our industry is built on utmost respect for agreements, deadlines, delivery on-time, and quality of
product, ability to work under pressure, and time management. Time management is an essential
skillset. NO late assignments or projects will be accepted. Carry marks will NOT be given, with only
exception in the rare event of a verified emergency. Please note that travel, conflicts with work-
schedules, family events etc. are not considered in this course as emergency for missing deadlines.

Project (20%)

Please read the instructions carefully.

Instructions:

1. Form a group of maximum 5 people.


2. Select any topic that interest you the most. The topics must related to the civil engineering
field/problem. For example:
a) Average rainfall in Batu Pahat
b) Vehicle spot speed data
c) Ambient temperature within the UTHM campus
d) Surface temperature of wall for FKAAS buildings
e) Numbers of cars that pass through traffic light in Parit Raja each day
f) Etc...(Can be anything. I leave it to your creativity)
3. Make sure the topic that you choose will be able to provide a numerical set of data.
4. Extra mark will be given if the topic is related to civil engineering field.
5. Minimum 3 random sample of at least 50 data for each sample.
6. Analyse the data set by using descriptive and inferential statistics that you have learned
throughout this course.
7. Your report should consist:
a) Introduction the selection of topic (background of study)
b) Data collection method
c) Data presentation
d) Data analysis (by using various statistical methods)
e) Results presentation
f) Report conclusion
8. Marks will be given based on your effort. So make sure to produce a comprehensive report.
9. Submission must be made on week 13 (14 December 2017). Late submission will not be
entertain.
10. Free from plagiarism. Offenders will get ZERO mark straightaway
