What is STEP?
The STEP club is a science club
that helps to improve
communication skills and science
skills, but what everyone especially
loves is the awesome scientific
experiments! They meet every
Wednesday in room 111, where
Mrs.Boice, a math teacher
by day, a STEP instructor by
afternoon, advises the club. We

Operation Clean Sweep!

So, you might be asking. What
is Operation Clean Sweep?
Well, on Wednesday, October
25th, we went out to try and find
out that same thing.
First we interviewed Mia
Figueroa.
Interviewer: So, why did you
decide to be a part of Operation
Clean Sweep?
Mia: I like to help out my school.
I just wish kids would take better
care of our school. Then this
would never have to take place
in the first place.
Interviewer: I agree. So, have
you found any garbage so far?
Mia: This is actually really
surprising. I have found a bunch
of garbage, and I have only been
out back next to the doors that
everyone goes through, and I
have already found a third of a
garbage bag full of trash.
Interviewer: Y
es, and I realize
that you we have only been out
here for about five minutes!

Lunch Time Chaos!!!

Many people run to get to the lunch
line ALL THE TIME! There is pretty
much NO supervision for the lunch
line. Many cut the line, run into each
other in line, and run ALL THE WAY
down the lunch line.
During recess its just as b ad. One
day, I was tripped, I tumbled onto
the ground and a security guard had
to carry me all the way d own to the
NURSE'S OFFICE! And you
guessed it, someone was running
and tripped me.

Friendly faces of Newspaper Club
went to STEP club to watch their
latest project, the Egg Drop.
Interviewer: Why did you decide
to be the official supervisor for
STEP?
Mrs. Boice told us she was
originally asked by one of her
co-workers to try out the club and
see if she liked it. (We think she
did, because shes been the club
supervisor for 9 years).
She was also in STEP when she environment and we just don't
was a high school student.
We also interviewed club
members; Nicole Rodriguez and
Ferneidy Dotel to ask about STEP,
and why they had joined.
Nicole said that, it was a good
opportunity, also that she loved
science and that they work
together for fun experiments.
Interviewer: So what are you
doing today?
Nicole and Ferneidy both
responded that today they were
Zoe Casement, here and happy
doing the egg drop. Essentially,
they tried to create a case that
would protect an egg falling from a
height. Though they didnt come up
with the experiment, they certainly
made it their own!
We all gathered outside in the front
to watch these contraptions that
every group dropped down from
Mr. Foggias window. Everyone did
a fantastic job. The winning teams
were: team #3 Taylor Massaro,
Roman Nieuwkerk, Valencia Villa,
Nicole Rodriguez and Ayanna
Rodriguez, team #4 Ferneidy
Dotel, and team #5, Mia Fiugeroa,
Myranda Velasquez, and Anysa
Holmes.
Congratulations to everyone who
succeeded. It was so much fun to
watch you guys learn and create!

Interviewer: So, what do you
think about what you have found
so far?
Siarra and Myranda:(with
passion) We really love the
like when the people disrespect
the environment like this. They
just think that the world is a
garbage can, said Siarra.
It makes them angry that nobody
acts like they care for our
environment. They said that they
have never noticed how many
water bottles there were, until
now all over. It opened there
eyes, to see how bad this
problem has gotten!
This was Madalyn Goehrig, and
to report that the clean sweep
was successful! Except for one
thing...if only some of us kids
clean this school over and over,
it still will not fix our problem.
Everyone in the school needs to
pitch in all the time. Let's say you
are outside and you finish your
water, where do you put the
water bottle? Do not just throw it
on the ground. Don't you want to
be proud to say I go to Lynch
Literacy Academy when
someone asks? We sure do. So
lets keep our school clean, and
clean up our messes. Thank you
