Reflection Essay

I think my skills as a writer have really expanded this semester. In the past thirteen weeks

I have learned a plethora of new material from how to cite sources to how to properly structure a

paper. Specifically, I have learned how to avoid using unnecessary words and passive voice,

which have always been struggles for me. Some important lessons I have learned are how to

properly cite sources in MLA and APA format, avoid superfluous wording and overly simple

dialect, and replace passive voice with active voice. With these improvements I have noticed my

essays becoming stronger and flowing with better form and structure. Using the course textbook

has especially helped me enhance my writing skills and develop a better voice since it outlines

how I can overcome my challenges in writing and improve my style while also keeping the tone

of the paper and the message clear. Some of my strengths that I am proud of today include citing

sources correctly and using a good variety of sentence beginners. Although, I could develop in

some areas, like using a stronger variety of short and long sentences and improving my overall

organization. I am hoping that in the upcoming semester I will be able to focus on these

weaknesses in my writing and finally overcome them.
