Collis Bousliman Learning Plan Extended

English 1120

As I look back on the first day of class, I remember feeling both excited and nervous. I
had always been a strong writer, and I was confident in my abilities, but I also knew that this
class would be challenging.
I came into the class with a background in creative writing, and I had always been drawn
to the power of words to convey emotions and ideas. I had also done well in previous writing
classes, and I was looking forward to honing my skills even further.
However, I also knew that I had some areas where I struggled. One of my weaknesses
was in organization and structure. I often found myself getting lost in my own ideas, and I
struggled to put my thoughts into a coherent order. I was also not as confident in my grammar
and mechanics as I would have liked.
Despite these challenges, I was determined to learn and grow as a writer. I was excited
to see what the class had in store for me, and I was ready to take on the challenges that lay
ahead.
Where I am now, at the end of the semester, is a much different place than I was on the
first day of class. I have accomplished a great deal and have learned even more.
One of the writing experiences that I feel particularly confident about is my ability to
analyze and compose arguments in a variety of genres. Through various assignments and
activities, I have learned to consider the rhetorical situation and to choose the appropriate
strategies, claims, and evidence for my arguments. I have also become more comfortable using
different mediums and technologies to communicate my ideas effectively.
In terms of the Student Learning Outcomes, I have worked towards all of them
throughout the semester. In terms of SLO-A, I have completed assignments that required me to
analyze and compose arguments in different genres, such as videos and research papers. For
SLO-B, I have participated in class discussions and group activities that allowed me to consider
the social nature of composing and the role of discourse communities.
For SLO-C, I have used the writing process to plan, research, prewrite, compose, assess,
revise, edit, and proofread my compositions. I have also sought out feedback from my peers
and instructors and have incorporated that feedback into my writing. In terms of SLO-D, I have
worked on improving my grammar and usage, and have become more confident in my ability to
write in the dialect of Standardized Written American English.
For SLO-E, I have learned to appreciate the value of incorporating various languages,
dialects, and registers into my own writing, and have also gained a better understanding of how
these elements can impact the meaning and effectiveness of a text. Finally, for SLO-F, I have
reflected on my development as a writer throughout the semester and have come to see how

composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other
contexts to advance my goals.
Overall, this semester has been a valuable learning experience for me, and I am
confident that I have made significant progress as a writer. I am excited to continue developing
my skills and to see what the future holds. Looking to the future, I still have areas of writing and
composition that I need to work on in order to continue improving. One of my primary areas of
focus will be on organization and structure. I still struggle with putting my thoughts into a
coherent order, and I want to continue working on this aspect of my writing.
In terms of the SLOs, I think that I still need to work on SLO-D, which focuses on
improving my fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English. I have made
some progress in this area, but I still have room for improvement. I also want to continue
working on SLO-E, which focuses on incorporating various languages, dialects, and registers into
my writing.
These areas will be priorities for me next semester, and I plan to use a variety of
resources and strategies to improve in them. I will continue to seek out feedback from my
peers and instructors, and I will also use online resources and grammar guides to help me
improve my grammar and usage. I will also pay closer attention to the organization and
structure of my writing and will work on creating a clear and logical flow in my compositions.
I will know that I have improved in these areas when I am able to write more fluently
and effectively in the dialect of Standardized Written American English, and when I am able to
incorporate various languages, dialects, and registers into my writing in a way that adds to the
meaning and impact of my compositions.
In terms of approaches, skills, terms, and ideas from this class, I plan to continue using
the writing process and seeking out feedback in order to improve my writing. I will also
continue to consider the rhetorical situation and to choose the appropriate strategies, claims,
and evidence for my arguments. Additionally, I will continue to reflect on my development as a
writer and to think about how my writing can be applied in other contexts to advance my goals.
Overall, I believe that the skills and knowledge that I have gained in this class will be valuable in
my future academic, professional, and personal lives.
