This past Fall, HHRA and SDSUs L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management partnered to help prepare the
hospitality students for their upcoming job interviews. The collaboration resulted in two successful events: the HHRA Resume
Workshop and HHRA Mock Interviews.
On Tuesday, September 12th, a team of three HHRA members visited SDSU to conduct the first ever HHRA Resume Workshop.
Jessica Mattly, Training Manager for the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, led the team by delivering a comprehensive and relevant
presentation on how to build and create the best resume for hospitality. Jessica was joined by Arinnabelle Reyes, Director of Hu-
man Resources for the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, and Lee Ann Hoshaw, Talent Acquisition Manager for Evans Hotels.
Together, they served as a panel in which students asked a variety of questions on how to best showcase their experience in a re-
sume. After the panel, the HHRA members sat with students one on one to review their resumes and provide them personalized
tips on improvement. Attended by more than 60 students, the HHRA Resume Workshop received rave reviews from attendees
and was seen as a valuable resource as students began their search for an internship.
The second HHRA event at SDSU was the HHRA Mock Interviews. Over the course of two days on October 17th and 18th, three
HHRA members visited SDSU to conduct 30 minute mock interviews. The HHRA members included Dari DeSousa, Senior Work
Environment Manager for Marriott International; Angela Barbuscia, Director of Human Resources for Coronado Island Marriott
Resort & Spa; and Amy Hanafin, Area Human Resources Manager for Evolution Hospitality. Each student who participated re-
ceived one on one feedback as a well as a recording of their interview to keep for review. Altogether, the team conducted 14 mock
interviews and helped all students in stepping up their interview skills.
Thank you HHRA members for participating in these worthwhile events!

This is a season of reflection. With the recent loss of my father, I am aware
now more than ever of the moments that cannot be relived, the time that can-
not be returned and the words that can no longer be said!
I was fortunate to be able to spend a good portion of the end of my Dads life
with him, but I still long for more time! Dont we all?! Where has the time
gone? In a few short weeks it will be 2018 and we will have lost even more
time.
Lets face it, whether we like it or not, time will keep moving and we will keep
getting older. Its what we do with that time that will define us! I want to make
a difference in the lives of others and Im sure if I asked you; you would say the
same.
As we age, we

you really know them you can overlook most of their faults, not saying I don't

I think life is so we can enjoy each other and have fun, but take the bitter with

you. If there wasn't anybody to care for you there wouldn't be anything worth-
while." Dave Ackerman 6 th Grade
