Title: Pan de Sal Saves the Day

Author: Norma Olizon-Chikiamco.

Characters
1. Pan de Sal
2. Croissant
3. Muffin
4. Honey Bread

Setting: One of the Bario barangays of Luzon

Events:
1. Pan de Sal is just a shy little girl who is ashamed of her name, the hut where she lives, and the food that
her mother packs for her lunch.
2. Pan de Sal loved this food but compared to those of her classmates, the rice and fish and the adobo and
the bananas suddenly looked so humble.
3. Her classmates would bring pizza and cheeseburgers
4. Their names are Croissant, Muffin, and Honey Bread. Their skin isn't dark, their noses aren't flat, and
Pan de Sal is jealous.
5. She just wants to be like everyone else, and yet her Filipino background makes everything so different
-- even the games she plays at home aren't the same as the other kids'.
6. She was so worried that her classmates may judge her physically.
7. Pan de Sal shows her uniqueness one day when the school bus they are on got a flat tire.
8. Their school bus broke down and they get stucked on the road with nothing to do or eat
9. She entertained her classmates and shared her simple lunch with them.
10. The children didnt judge her, like she thought. Instead, they became friends. They even asked for
recipes.

Conlusion: Pan de Sal became friends with her classmates. She then realized that it is OK to be
different from them in terms of the food she eats and the games she played.

Lesson Learned: This story is perfect for teaching kids that even though they might look or speak
differently or eat different foods, it doesn't make them lower or others better than
them. It also would speak out of the relevance of bullying. The story in a way relays
to us that we should never bully anyone who is different from us since these kids
may be different yet as psychologist would say being different means being unique
and they do have special skills that we dont have.
