Subject:
Measure against 0184 Jam Code that occurs during double-sided printing (imageRUNNER1133/1133A)
Symptom
During double-sided printing, 0184 Jam may occur when 2nd page is being printed. Jam may occur on media with
the paper weight of 80g/m2, and does not occur on media with any other paper weight due to differences in toughness
of paper and differences in angle of paper entering the feed path.
0184 Jam: Duplex Feed Sensor Delay Jam

Cause
One of the parts at paper inlet of Duplex pick-up guide in Duplex feeding unit where 2nd page goes in had uneven
surface caused by defects in the mold.

Factory Measure
The mold with the problem has been removed from the production starting April 2013. Since then, we made
modifications on the mold, and the Duplex pick-up guide produced with the new mold has been introduced into the
production starting May 2013.

Servicing Work
When the above symptom occurs, prepare a Duplex pick-up guide and replace it by following the attached "Duplex
pick-up guide replacement procedure".

Removing the uneven surface of iR1133 paper guide to prevent 0184 paper jams

The number RC2-6128 lot 14-1 is an example of a guide which is known to have an uneven surface. There is a small
ridge along the guide where the small ends of the wedge shaped supports meet the guide (circled). After following the
procedure to remove the paper guide, gently removing the ridge with extra fine sandpaper and polishing will resolve
the jamming problem. In the absence of a new guide this countermeasure has proved successful. Please note the
moulding has been changed and there have been reports of 14-1 without the ridge.

The batch number RC2-6128 1-1 is a sample of a guide which does not have the uneven surface and this guide works
without a problem. You will notice there is no ridge on this guide.
