SUBJECT: FUSING UNIT DAMAGE

SYMPTOM:
The Front Stopper and/or Front Guide Plate of the Fusing Unit are damaged when the customer pulls the
Fusing Unit out.

Front Stopper:

CAUSE:
The user pulls out the Fuser Unit with force, breaking the stopper that supports the unit, and in some cases,
the Front Guide Plate as well.

NOTE: The area of the stopper that supports the Fusing Unit is very narrow. This makes it easy to break
the stopper if the unit is pulled out with excessive force.

SOLUTION:
Production Countermeasure:
In order to distribute the stress more widely, the shape of the Stopper has been changed as follows, from
September 2012 mass production.

Field Countermeasure:
Replace the Stopper with the new shape version that distributes the stress more widely.

Also if the Guide Plate is damaged, replace the Guide Plate and the Duct Seal attached to the Guide Plate.
Then, remove the Lever Lock [A] and all clamps from the old Guide Plate and use them to attach the new
one.

NOTE:
Attach the Duct Seal for the left-front of the Fusing Unit to the new Guide Plate.
IMPORTANT: As shown below,
• Make sure that the upper right-hand corner of the Duct Seal is at a right angle (“Point A”).
• Attach the part so that the bottom left-hand corner is flush against the ridge (“Point B”).

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:
The following is the replacement procedure for the Front Guide Plate of the Fusing Unit.
1. Open the right door.
2. Remove the Front Right Cover.
3. Pull out Trays 1 and 2 and the Image Transfer Belt Unit.

4. Remove the Right Front Cover [A] and Front Inner Cover [B].

5. Remove the QSU Fan Bracket [A] ( x 1,  x 1,  x 1).


6. Remove the QSU Fan ( x 2).

7. Remove the Paper Exit Fan [C] ( x 2,  x 1)

8. Remove the connector [D] ( x 1,  x 4, Spring x 1).

9. Remove the plate [E] ( x 2).


10. Open the Right Door.
11. Remove the Fusing Unit.

12. Remove the Fusing Unit Shutter Plate Home Position Sensor Bracket [F] ( x 1,  x 1).

NOTE: This sensor was deleted in the middle of July 2012.

13. Remove the fusing unit shutter plate drive mechanism [G] ( x 4).

14. Replace the front guide plate ( x 9).
