Revised on February 23, 2015. Rev.2

Overview
The following procedure is to address E009-0000, E009-0002 and the thumping noise
from the fixing assembly.

The cleaning procedure and parts replacement procedure have been combined in this
document. All steps must be completed in order to repair the E009-0000, E009-0002
and the thumping noise from the fixing assembly.

Preparations
Prepare the following countermeasure parts before the procedure.

iR-ADV C5051 Series

Fixing Drive plate: FL3-9524-000
Pressure Release Plate Set: FM1-H415-000

iR-ADV C5255 Series

Fixing Drive plate: FL3-9385-000
Pressure Release Plate Set: FM1-H415-000

Procedure
Go through the procedure in the following order.
A. Remove the fixing assembly
B. Replacement and cleaning of the Pressure Release Plate Assembly
C. Replacement of the Fixing Drive Plate and Cleaning of the Gears.
D. Install the fixing assembly
E. Appendix: Assembling the shafts

[Note]

The parts which are needed to measure the noise on the fixing assembly and E009-0002 have
become a set. Due to the making the set, the replacement of the Fixing Drive Plate should be
implemented at the same time.

Revised on February 23, 2015

A. Remove the fixing assembly
1) Open the right lower cover and right upper cover.

2) Open the fixing rail and loosen the 5 screws.

Note: If the old Fixing Drive Plate is installed, there will be only four (4) screws.

3) Hold the tabs of the fixing assembly to pull it out.

4) Hold the grip of the fixing assembly to remove the part
B. Replacement and Cleaning of the Pressure Release Plate Assembly
1) Remove the 1 screw [1] to detach the fixing rear gear cover [2].

[2]

[1]

2) Remove the 1 screw [1] and detach the pressure release stopper [2]. Discard the old Pressure Release
Stopper.

[2]

[1]

3) Remove the 2 screws [1] and pressure release plate [2]. Discard the old Pressure Release Plate.

[2]
[1]
[3]

5
4) Remove the E-Ring [1] and discard the old 46T gear [2].

[2]

[1]

5) Remove the three (3) gears [1], black spacer [2] and black cam [3].

[2]

[1]  [3]

NOTE: Depending on the fixing assembly, the black spacer [2] and the black cam [3] may be one (1)
piece.
6) Clean any residual grease within the teeth and both sides of each gear shown below using Isopropyl Alcohol
and a clean cloth.

[Caution]: Do “not” apply any grease to the gears and when using Isopropyl Alcohol, use protective
gloves.

7) Clean any residual grease on the Black Cam [1] and Black Spacer [2] using Isopropyl Alcohol. It is also
possible that the black spacer and black cam are one (1) piece.

[1]
[2]

[Caution]: Do “not” apply any grease to the black cam and when using Isopropyl Alcohol, use
protective gloves.

8) Clean the grease off the four (4) shafts [1] and the Pressure Plate [2] that rides on the Black Cam with
Isopropyl Alcohol.

[2]

[1]

[Caution]: Do “not” apply any grease to the black cam and when using Isopropyl Alcohol, use
protective gloves.
9) Reinstall the previously removed gears, Black Cam and Black Spacer.
10) Install the new 46T gear that comes in the Pressure Release Plate Set (FM1-H415-000).
NOTE: When installing the new 46T gear, use the E-Ring that comes in the Pressure Release Plate Set.

11) Install the new Pressure Release Plate that comes in the Pressure Release Plate Set (FM1-H415-000).

12) Install the Pressure Release Stopper that comes in the Pressure Release Plate Set (FM1-H415-000).
[Caution]: Do not use the old Pressure Release Stopper. Do not deform the Pressure Release Stopper.
Either using the old Pressure Release Stopper or deforming the new Pressure Release Stopper will result
in E009 error codes.

[1]

[2]

Note: When tightening down the screw for the Pressure Release Stopper, make sure the lower hole [2]
on the stopper sits correctly within the protrusion pin [1] on the Fixing Drive Plate.
13) Reinstall the black cover.
C. Replacement of the Fixing Drive Plate and Cleaning of the Gears
A. Place paper to catch the parts that may fall. Butt the 2 sides [a] of the paper against the main body.

[Reference] To harden the paper and prevent parts from falling out of the paper, fold the opposite sides
where the paper is done butt against the main body.

[a]

B. Remove the 4 screws [1] and detach the fixing drive plate [2] while paying attention not to drop parts
such as screws or a bearing inside the main body.

[1]

[2]

[Caution] Remove only the fixing drive plate. To prevent the parts such as the bushing, bearing, gear, or
shafts from falling at this point, follow the steps below. If these parts are separated, refer to the
"APPENDIX" at the end of the procedure.
 Hold the fixing drive plate in the way [a] as indicated to remove the 4th (last) screw.

 Hold the 2 shafts [1] to pull out the fixing drive plate. The blue arrow shows the direction the fixing
drive plate is pulled out. Do not remove the 2 shafts [2].

[2]
[1]

[Caution] Be sure to clean all excess grease from the gears and exposed shafts. If there is grease in this
area, it will migrate to the fixing assembly possibly causing E009 error codes or a thumping sound.

C. For iR-ADV C5051 series, replace the old fixing drive plate with the new fixing drive plate S
(FL3-9524-000)
For iR-ADV C5255 series, replace the old fixing drive plate with the new fixing drive plate H
(FL3-9385-000).
Attach the plates to the fixing assembly with the 4 screws removed in step 2).

E. Appendix: Assembling the Shafts
[Caution] Be sure to clean all excess grease from the gears and shafts prior to installing them into
the machine. If there is grease in this area, it will migrate to the fixing assembly possibly causing
E009 error codes or a thumping sound.

Shaft [A] and Shaft [B] consists of the following parts. Be sure that the component parts are correct.
