SUBJECT:
Troubleshooting Steps to Prevent Jam Codes 0205 / 0207 / 0105 / 0107 / 0108

GENERAL:
This Technical Publication is to inform the field of effective troubleshooting steps in preventing jam codes
0205, 0207, 0105, 0107, or 0108. This Technical Publication is a compilation of several previous technical
publications addressing these jam codes plus includes new information.

DETAILS:
If one or more jam code conditions should occur, please review and follow the procedure provided for that
jam code indication given.
• When a paper skew occurs and generates a jam code indication 0207/ 0105.
• When a paper jam occurs and generates a jam code indication 0207/ 0108.
• When the edge of the copy sheet hits the 1st Paper Delivery Flapper, a jam code indication 0207
may occur.
• Checking the DCON firmware and service mode settings in order to prevent a jam code indication of
0207/ 0107/ 0205.

SERVICING:
Symptom: Paper Skew occurs with Jam Code 0207 or 0105
Case 1
When the lower right door sheet (P/N: FC5-7413-000) is either moved or peels off the lower right door the
pressure between the vertical path roller 2 [1] and the vertical path slave roller 2 [2]is decreased thus
creating a paper feeding fault to occur that generates a Jam Code 0105 or 0207.
Cause:
The displacement or peeling off of the lower right door sheet is caused by the small size of the sheet. Since
the size of the sheet is undersized, the adhesion area (glue surface) is very narrow.
Production Measures:
A change has been made in the shape of the lower right door sheet and the attachment position to prevent
the above mentioned symptom.

Symptom: Paper Skew occurs with Jam Code 0207 or 0105

Case 2
If the Guide, Vertical Path: FC5-0595-000 becomes damaged as shown in the fig. 1, a jam code 0207 or
0105 indication will occur.

Solution:
Replacement of the Vertical Path Guide is needed.

Symptom: Paper Jam occurs with Jam Code 0207 or 0108

Case 1
If a jam indication of 0207 or 0108 should occur, the following measures should be taken:
1. SEVICE MODE> COPIER> FUNCTION> PART-CHK>SL
2. Enter “7” from the from the control panel key pad [SL1 on the 2nd Delivery Frame Assembly]
3. Press the [OK] key.
4. Press SOL-ON to check the operation of SL1.
5. The control Panel LCD will display the following: “START> ACTIVE> OK!”
6. Listen for a sound [click] from the solenoid and depending on the outcome, perform the following:
a. If a click is heard, try adjusting the solenoid so that the deflector opens and closes correctly.

Date: 05-31-06

If operation of the flapper is faulty, paper will crash into the flapper.
b. If no Click is heard, check SL1 for continuity. If SL1 is defective, replace SL1: FL2-1203-
000
c. If SL1 continuity checks well, check the signal from the Delivery Controller PCB. If the is
no signal change, replace the Delivery Controller PCB: FM2-3221-000.

SL1 Solenoid 2nd Delivery Frame Assembly

Symptom: Paper Jam occurs with Jam Code 0207 or 0108
Case 2
If the 2nd Delivery Frame Assembly is forcefully opened too wide, in time, a jam code indication of 0207 or
0108 can occur.
Cause:
When the 2nd Delivery Frame Assembly is forced open widely past its stop point, the lower portion of the
hinge becomes bent preventing the door to sit in its proper position. [See Fig. 1] An indication that the
hinge is bent can be seen by damage on the front side 2nd delivery frame assembly. [See Fig. 2]

Fig. 1 Fig. 2
Solution:
If the hinge is bent, replacement of the 2nd Delivery Hinge: FL2-1202-000 is needed.

Symptom: The top edge of paper bends downward into the flapper causing a Jam Code of 0207.
Case 3
When paper passes over the 1st Paper Delivery Flapper, the top edge of the sheet misses the far rear side rib,
which can cause the top edge of the sheet to fall between the ribs, becoming caught and jam.
Service Procedure:
A procedure has been made to help prevent this occurrence:
1. Adjust the Cassettes so that the paper passes over ribs on both ends of the flapper.

Jam Code 0107 occurs in two sided mode, on the second side of the printed page, under high humidity
conditions. Under these conditions, the paper may become jammed in the drum unit due to paper curl
caused by absorbed moisture. When the paper absorbs moisture, in high humidity environments, the paper
curls and does not separate properly from the drum. This condition causes the machine to display jam code
0107. In order to minimize this from happening, please make the following adjustments:
1. Install DCON 18.01
2. Adjust specific Service Mode Settings (explained in Servicing Procedure)
Servicing Procedure:
DCON 18.01 can be installed by either flashing the firmware via the Service Support Tool or by replacing
the DCON DIMM with an updated one. If flashing the firmware is desired, reference TP06 020.pdf for
details.
If a physical DCON DIMM is desired, then reference the SERVICE PARTS section of this publication.
Specific Adjustment for Jam Code 0107 in Service Mode
There are some adjustments in service mode that can be done to limit the possibility of jam code 0107 from
occurring. However, please note that these changes can adversely affect the productivity of the equipment
possibly causing poor transfer. Please see the procedure below for details.

Procedures to Minimize Jam Code 0107 at the Second Side of a Two-Sided Copy
1. Fixing Temperature Control Changes (Plain/Thick)
In order to reduce the possibility of paper curling of plain paper on the first side, the temperature of
the fixing assembly can be lowered by 20 degrees Celsius. This change can cause the fixing
temperature for thick paper to lower. In order to prevent poor fixing on thick paper due to this
change, raise the fixing temperature control for thick paper by 15 degrees Celsius.

Symptom: Field of effective troubleshoot techniques used to address 0205 / 0207 Jam Codes ******
In order to prevent the reoccurrence of 0205/ 0207 jam codes, Canon U.S.A. Inc. has developed the
following service work procedure to minimize such paper handling faults.
Servicing:
¾ Install DCON v18.01*
¾ In Service Mode Level One (1) (COPIER>ADJUST>FEED-ADJ>LOOP-CST) change the default
setting (63) to 80.
¾ In Service Mode Level One (1) (COPIER>ADJUST>FEED-ADJ>LOOPPREFE) increase the
default setting (45) in increments of two (2) (example: 46, 48, 50, etc).
¾ Check the condition of the Feed and Separation rollers **.
¾ Adjust the Left/Right Margin (1st side) ****. If not adjusted correctly paper may get jammed at the
1ST Paper Delivery Flapper (P/N: FL2-1212-030).
*NOTE: Refer to technical publication TP06 020.pdf (Countermeasure to minimize the occurrence of
Jam Code 0107)
