Abstract.

The purpose of this research was to evaluate students understanding of number sense
and mental computation among secondary school students. A total of 38 students from
secondary school in Kelantan participated in this study. The design for this study was
quantitative design where the data on student’s response was collected using two instruments.
The first instrument was Number Sense Test consisted of 50 items and second instrument was
Mental Computation Test consisted of 45 items. The result from this study indicate that student
obtain low performance in Number Sense Test compared to the Mental Computation Test.
