Earthquake Hazards

A. Ground Shaking
 These can vary depending to the location, topography, bedrock type and the
orientation of the fault rupture.
 These can also affect the way the seismic waves travel through the ground.
B. Tsunami
 Long wavelength oceanic waves generated by the sudden displacement of
seawater.
 Can be caused by a shallow earthquake in the sea bed, a underwater volcanic
eruption or a submarine crash.
C. Landslides and Rockfalls
 The great movement of the ground can destabilises cliff and mountains that can
cause landslides and rockfalls.
D. Liquefaction
 This occurs when waterlogged sediments are agitated by seismic shaking.
 This can involve when buildings can sink down into the ground or tilt over.
E. Fire
 This can start by broken gas lines and power lines or tipped over wood or
charcoal stove.
 These can be a serious problem especially when water lines are broken.
