Professional Dispositions Statement Assessment 2
There are several dispositions that I believe all effective professional educators should
display. I believe an educator should display professional ethics. This includes being organized,
dressing appropriate, and punctuality. I want to show my students that I am a positive role model
that always has a positive attitude, respects others, and shows compassion and honesty. I will
have student confidentiality and ensure that my student’s information is kept private under
appropriate terms. I believe an educator should be team player. Collaboration with other teachers,
families, and the community will enhance the variety of resources available and as an educator;
we need to utilize all the resources we can get. Diversity is another disposition that I value in my
classroom. Recognizing our students by their experiences, values, and culture can bring a wide
range of knowledge into the classroom. I understand that we have to provide equal opportunities
for all students. Finally, I believe in self-reflection. I believe it is important for teachers to be
honest with their work and accept the good with the bad. Not every lesson is going to be great
and even the great lessons could use adjustments. Constructive criticism is going to ensure that
On my self-assessment, I scored myself with mainly fives with some fours and one three.
My assessment supports my disposition statement but made me realize that there are some areas
that I could add some perfection to. For example, my one three was on a block about patience.
be patient with children who are four and I aspire to make myself better. Other than that, I do
believe that I uphold and strongly agree with the professional dispositions.
In my placement, I have to particular students who have behavior issues. One child can
not control it and the other knows how, just chooses to test his teachers. I am learning how to be
patient with all students because I realized that there are going to be students who willingly test

you. For example, during my circle time the other day, the student who likes to push buttons
decided to do so. He was fiddling with items he shouldn’t of had, talking, and not paying
attention after several indirect attempts to quiet him. I do not believe in embarrassing students by
calling them out when they are being disruptive. The student decided to say a not so nice phrase
to me in front of the class, and I chose to ignore it and continue circle time. The phrase was not
something that needed direct discipline which is why I chose to cater to my students who where
listening. It would have been easier for me to stop what I was doing, pull him out of circle, and
address the situation but I felt that doing so would take away from the other students. As I grow
Steps I will do to ensure that I focus on this one particular goal are to think, breathe, and
react. I believe it is important to stop and think about the situation and how you want to address
it, breathe before speaking, then react based on appropriate rationale. I have to remember that
these children are only four and most four year olds have little attention spans. I will start taking
better notes on my students. For example, finding what makes them tick, learning to read their
cues, take them out of situations, and overall get to know them on a deeper level.
