and collaborate with fellow educators, and build rapport with students and parents to uphold the
professional dispositions to the highest standard inside and outside my classroom daily.
After taking the professional dispositions assessment, I realized that the values listed
above in my personal professional disposition statement were the ones that I wanted to
specifically focus on alongside all the rest. They are all extremely important to put into practice
daily, however these are the ones that really stood out to me during the professional disposition
assessment. My self-assessment supports my statement due to the fact that I marked a 5 for
“strongly agree” for the three values listed above. I have grown in these values immensely since
the start of my degree and practicum at GCU all the way through these first two weeks of student
teaching.
classroom environment so my students are excited and feel comfortable to learn. Every day I
give all the students high-fives and hugs when they walk in and the same when they line up to
leave. I always call on students to answer questions and guide them through their mistakes so
they aren’t afraid to answer and try to solve things. I also communicate and collaborate with my
mentor teacher and our 1st grade teachers when unit planning and throughout professional
development weekly. Lastly, I strive very hard to get to know the students and what they love to
do so that I can show them I care about them. I have learned that students don’t care what I know
until they know that I care, so just showing them that I value them and am proud of their
progress in the classroom helps them to learn and grow. I am still learning and practicing these
dispositions and following the model code of ethics daily to continue to mature into the best
teacher I can be. After each time I teach a lesson I always discuss with my mentor teacher asking
for feedback, grows and glows, and just how I can improve overall to help our students.
Teaching first grade, and any grade really, can be challenging so I am eager to keep learning and
stepping out of my comfort zone to care for and help each student make exponential growth.
