Ship Steel Weight

The calculation of ship steel weight based on the formula from Watson, RINA(Practical Ship Design,
DGM Watson):
E(Llyod's equipment num) = Lpp(B+T)+ 0.85 Lpp(H-
T)+0.85{(L1.h1)+0.75(L2.h2)}
In which: L1 = Forecastle deck length = 12.38
h1 = Forecastle height = 2.5
L2 = Poopdeck length = 28.62
h2 = Superstructure height = 2.5
So, the value
of E is= 3759.92 m2

1. Ship Steel Weight (Wst)

Wst = K x 𝐸1.36
Which K value can be obtained from the table which is stated in practical ship design
page 85 :

Wst = K x 𝐸1.36 K = 0.032 ± 0.003 So the value of K = 0.06

= 4369,121 ton
2. Outfit and Accomodation
Woa =0.4 x Lpp x B ( Practical Ship Design Page 100 DGM Watson)
= 1008.672 ton

3. Engine Installation Weight

Wmt = 0.72 x 𝑀𝐶𝑅 0.78
= 437.9698 ton

4. Propulsion Machinery Weight

𝑀𝐶𝑅 0,78
Wd = 12 x
𝑅𝑃𝑀
= 116,8177 ton

5. Weight of the Reminder

Wr = K x 𝑀𝐶𝑅 0,7
= 217,4757 ton

6. Reserved Weight
To avoid mistake in planning because of some minor errors in calculation and some
other equation which haven’t been inserted into the calculation, so it needs a reserved
weight factor ( 2%-3%) LWT, which was chosen around 3 % :
Wres = 3 % (Wst + Woa + Wmt + Wd + Wr)
= 184,5 ton

LWT = Wst + Woa + Wmt + Wres + Wd + Wr

= 6334,55 ton
