Designing of Compressor

Data:

QF , Tons of Refrigeration = 270 TR

QS , Tons of Refrigeration =

Refrigerant = R717 - Ammonia

Storage Evaporating Temperature =

Ice Evaporating Temperature = 15℉ = -9℃

Condenser Temperature = 86℉ = 30℃

For Freezing Tank:

From the Table of R717-Ammonia:

h1 = hg @ -9°C = 1451.44 kJ/kg

h3= hf @ 30 ℃ = 341.769 kJ/kg

v1 = vg at -9°C = 0.40186 m3/kg

From Mollier Diagram of R717-Ammonia:

h2 = h at 1168.6 kPa and s2 equal to s1 = 1654 kJ/kg

Work of Compressor in the Freezing Tank:

To solve for the mass flow rate of the refrigerant

V1 = m (v1)

V1 = 0.3439 m3/s

Solving for the Compressor Work

Wc1 = m (h2 – h1)

Wc1 = 0.8557 kg/s (1654 kJ/kg – 1451.44 kJ/kg)

Wc1 = 173.33 kW
