Pre Lab 3 DC Seperately-Excited Motor

Attention: You, as the group leader are required to do the Pre-lab among your group members. The
problems must be discussed in details and written in the provided minutes of meeting. Lab
experiments and reports must be done in a group of no more than 4 students. All the best!

Group: Section: Date:

1. Draw the equivalent circuit of a Separately Excited DC Motor with voltmeter and ammeter
connections to show measurements of terminal voltages, armature current and field winding
current. [4 marks]

2. State the difference between a Separately Excited DC Motor and a Shunt DC Motorin term of
circuit connection. [2 marks]

3. Describe the effect of switching off the field power supply (V F = 0) when the Separately
Excited DC Motor is operating at no load. [2 marks]

4. State any differences in the operating characteristics between a Separately Excited DC Motor
and a Shunt DC Motor. [2 marks]
