Teachers are not Beginning teachers and some
effectively implementing experienced teachers were
Response to Intervention not provided with specific
(RTI) strategies in Tier 2 strategies to use when
and Tier 3. students are in Tier 2 and
Tier 3. Neither were they
effectively supported on how
to utilize rotating
workstations in their
classrooms to pull (give
additional 15-20 minutes of
small group) these students
with the most needs.
During Professional
Learning
Communities(PLC’s)
teachers were given a
survey regarding RTI. In
addition, teachers were
provided with an overview
of RTI and how to
effectively implement it in
the classroom. They were
also provided with some
specific strategies to
implement when they pull
for small groups during
workstations.
There is still more work that C004
needs to be done in this C005
area. With Administrator C006
knowledge and support, a C007
PLC during the Teacher PD
at the beginning of the
school year will be
developed for the next
2018-2019 school year.
Teachers should have
already had this
information at the
beginning of the previous
school year 2017-2018.
Developmental research
and results are still on
going. The goal is fora
discussion with the school
Principal regarding
providing adequate
training for ALL teachers,
regardless of experience.
There needs to be an
effective teacher
Professional Development
in this area.
Teachers are not aware of Beginning teachers and some
legal ramifications of not experienced teachers were
effectively implementing not knowledgeable that 504
Accommodations in 504 and Special Education plans
and Individualized exist, and they are
Education Plans(s). mandated by Federal law.
**Teachers were also not
aware that the RTI process is
needed before specific 504
and IEP plans can be
developed. **
During teacher PLC, they
were given an opportunity
to complete a survey. Upon
survey results it was noted
that many teachers were
not informed of the
legalities regarding
implementing
Accommodations as
outlined in 504 and IEP(s).
Teachers were provided
with a mini PD regarding
the importance of
providing accommodations
to ALL students. Teachers
were also informed of their
responsibility regarding
504 plans
accommodations.
When teachers are not C004
aware of specific student C005
IEP and 504 plans that C006
should be implemented, C007
there is no excuse for not
providing adequate
knowledge or training by
our school Administrators.
The goal is to hire an
effective Special Education
Department chair to
disseminate Individualized
Education Plans to teachers
and collaborate on best
practices to provide
Accommodations within
federal guidelines.
Research and results in this
area are ongoing.
