Pay attention to this:

But there are other nouns that

we CAN’T actually count. To do
so, we need to make them
countable.

Some words that you can use are: A slice of, a piece of, a bottle of, a glass of, a chunk of, a
spoonful of, a bowl of, a pinch of, a litre of, a bar of, etc.

● A bar of soap ● A slice of cheese

● A pinch of salt ● A chunk of cheese
● A litre of petrol ● A piece of cheese
● A spoonful of sugar ● A bottle of wine
● A bowl of sugar ● A glass of wine

➢ Write these 10 sentences in plural, remember that the uncountable noun CANNOT
be in plural

QUANTIFIERS

Nouns can be countable or uncountable. When you learn a new noun you should make a
note of whether it is countable or uncountable as we use different words (quantifiers) with
countables and uncountables. These words are used to indicate how many things (quantity)
or how much of something (amount) we are referring to.

Here is a definition:

COLLOCATIONS AND EXPRESSIONS

Here we are going to study some new vocabulary.

 Look in the dictionary (www.wordreference.com)

o What’s the meaning of a collocation?

o What’s the meaning of an expression?

Why learn collocations?

● Your language will be more natural and more easily understood.

● You will have alternative and richer ways of expressing yourself.

● It is easier for our brains to remember and use language in chunks or blocks rather

than as single words.
