THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN NETWORKS AND

COMMUNICATIONS

NAME: AZIMAN BIN ZULKIFLI

CLASS: 4 ERAT
1.0 Introduction
A computer network is a system of interconnected computers andperipheral devices.
Forexample, it may connect computers, printers, scanners and cameras.Communications
is about the transfer of information from a sender, across a distance, to areceiver whilst
Computers communicate with digital signals. The olderforms of communications
technology, such as telephones and radios, useanalog signals.

2.0 Mobile Computing

2.1 Defination
Mobile computing is human–computer interaction by which a computer is expected to be
transported during normal usage, which allows for transmission of data, voice and video.
Mobile computing involves mobile communication, mobile hardware, and mobile
software. Communication issues include ad hoc networks and infrastructure networks as
well as communication properties, protocols, data formats and concrete technologies.
Hardware includes mobile devices or device components. Mobile software deals with the
characteristics and requirements of mobile applications.

3.0 Internet Technology and Services
3.1 VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (Voice over IP, VoIP and IP telephony) is a methodology and
group of technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions
over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. The terms Internet telephony,
broadband telephony, and broadband phone service specifically refer to the provisioning
of communications services (voice, fax, SMS, voice-messaging) over the public Internet,
rather than via the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
3.2 BLOG

A blog (a truncation of the expression weblog) is a discussion or informational site

published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically
displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). Until 2009,
blogs were usually the work of a single individual[citation needed], occasionally of a
small group, and often covered a single subject.
4.0 Types of network
4.1 PAN

A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for data transmission
amongst devices such as computers, telephones, tablets and personal digital assistants.
PANs can be used for communication amongst the personal devices themselves
(interpersonal communication), or for connecting to a higher level network and the
Internet (an uplink) where one "master" device takes up the role as internet router.
4.2 VPN

A virtual private network, also known as a VPN, is a private network that extends across
a public network or internet. It enables users to send and receive data across shared or
public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private
network.
4.3 WLAN

A wireless local area network (WLAN) is a wireless computer network that links two or
more devices using a wireless distribution method (often spread-spectrum or OFDM
radio) within a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office
building. This gives users the ability to move around within a local coverage area and yet
still be connected to the network. A WLAN can also provide a connection to the wider
Internet.
4.4 WIMAX

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a family of wireless

communication standards based on the IEEE 802.16 set of standards, which provide
multiple physical layer (PHY) and Media Access Control (MAC) options.
The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June
2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard, including the definition
of predefined system profiles for commercial vendors. The forum describes WiMAX as
"a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband
access as an alternative to cable and DSL". IEEE 802.16m or WirelessMAN-Advanced is
a candidate for the 4G, in competition with the LTE Advanced standard.
5.0 Conclusion
Network communication is an ever-growing industry with newtechnologies and
standardsemerging every day. To use a communication network effectively youneed to
know theadvantages and disadvantages, as well as the various types of networks possible.
