Comparison of Adjectives มีวตั ถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ นักศึกษาค้ นคว้ าด้ วยตนเองเพื่อให้ เข้ าใจ
โครงสร้ างทางไวยากรณ์ในการสื่อสารเรื่ อง Making comparisons เอกสารฉบับนี ้
ประกอบด้ วย แบบประเมินตนเองก่อนและหลังเรี ยน สาระสําคัญ วัตถุประสงค์ เนื อ้ หาสาระ
กิจกรรม เฉลยแบบประเมินตนเองก่อนและหลังเรี ยนซึ่งปรากฏอยูท่ ้ ายแบบประเมินตนเองหลัง
เรี ยน วิธีการศึกษาชุดการเรี ยนรู้ด้วยตนเองนี ก้ ําหนดให้ นักศึกษาอ่านและปฏิบัติตามลําดับที่ได้
เสนอไว้ เมื่อศึกษาเสร็ จเรี ยบร้ อยแล้ วจึงตรวจคําตอบกับเฉลยแบบทดสอบก่อนเรี ยนและหลังเรี ยน

การเปรี ยบเทียบคําคุณศัพท์ ( Comparison of Adjectives )

การเปรี ยบเทียบคําคุณศัพท์ ( Comparison of Adjectives ) เป็ นการเปรี ยบเทียบ

คุณสมบัติหรื อลักษณะของคํานามว่ ามีคณุ ภาพเท่ าเทียมกัน มากกว่ า หรื อมากที่สุด
อย่างไรโดย สามารถแบ่ งการเปรี ยบเทียบได้เป็ น 3 ขั้น คือ

1. การเปรียบเทียบขัน้ ปกติ ( Positive Degree )ใช้ เปรี ยบเทียบลักษณะที่เท่า

เทียมกัน หรื อไม่เท่าเทียมกัน

มีคาํ เชื่อมหลายลักษณะดังต่ อไปนี ้

• as + adjective + as แสดงความ เท่าเทียมกัน เช่น

The new machine is as big as the old one .เครื่ องจักรใหม่ใหญ่เท่าๆกับ

เครื่ องเก่า

• as + much + นามนับไม่ ได้ หรื อ many +นามนับได้ + as แสดงความ

เท่าเทียมกัน เช่น

I have as much time as you. ฉันมีเวลามากเท่าๆคุณ

I have as many cars as you. ฉันมีรถมากเท่าๆคุณ

• the same +นาม + as แสดงความเท่าเทียมกัน เช่น

Malee is the same age as Yupa มาลีมีอายุเท่ากับยุพา

แต่ถ้าประธานเป็ นพหูพจน์ ให้ ตดั as ออกได้ เลย เช่น

Malee and Yupa are the same age. มาลีและลัดดาอายุเท่ากัน

• กรณีต้องการเปรี ยบเทียบความไม่เท่ากันมีรูปแบบดังนี ้

not so + adjective + as หรือ not as + adjective + as เช่น

This project is not so good as that one. โครงการนี ้นี ้ไม่ดีโครงการนันนั

้ น้
หรือ
This project is not as good as that one.

2. การเปรียบเทียบขัน้ กว่ า ( Comparative Degree ) ใช้ เปรี ยบเทียบกับ

นาม 2 นาม ว่ามีลกั ษณะมากกว่าหรื อน้ อยกว่า ดังนี ้

A + v. to be + (adj +er ) + than + B เช่น

This road is longer than that one. ถนนเส้ นนี ้ยาวกว่าเส้ นนัน้
You are taller than me. หรื อ You are taller than I am. เธอสูงกว่าฉัน

A + v. to be + (more + adj ) + than + B เช่น

This film is more interesting than that one. ภาพยนตร์ เรื่ องนีน้ ่าสนใจกว่า
เรื่ องนันMy
้ mobile phone is less expensive than yours ( your mobile
phone) โทรศัพท์มือถือของฉันราคาแพงน้ อยกว่าของคุณ

3. การเปรี ยบเทียบขัน้ สูงสุด ( Superlative Degree ) ใช้ เปรี ยบเทียบกับนาม

ทีม่ ีจํานวนตังแต่
้ 3 ขึ ้นไป ว่ามีลกั ษณะ ทีส่ ดุ ในจํานวนนามเหล่านัน้ รูปแบบมีดงั นี ้

the + คุณศัพท์ ข้ันสูงสุด + นาม

What is the longest river in the world? แม่นํ ้าอะไรยาวทีส่ ดุ ในโลก

Flying is the safest way to travel. การเดินทางโดยเครื่ องบินเป็ นการเดินทางที่
ปลอดภัยทีส่ ดุ

Susan is my best friend. ซุซานเป็ นเพื่อนทีด่ ีทสี่ ดุ ของฉัน

(ถ้ ามี possessive adjectiveเช่นmy, your, his, etcอยู่หน้ าคุณศัพท์ขนสู

ั ้ งสุดแล้ ว ไม่
ต้ องใช้ the)

การสร้ างรู ปคําคุณศัพท์ เพื่อแสดงการเปรี ยบเทียบมี 2 วิธี คือ

• สร้ างรูปขันกว่
้ า โดยการเติม er เข้ าข้ างท้ าย หรื อเติม more เข้ าข้ างหน้ า
• สร้ างรูปขันสุ
้ ด โดยการเติม est เข้ าข้ างท้ าย หรื อเติม most เข้ าข้ างหน้ า

ข้ อควรจํา

1. คําคุณศัพท์ พยางค์ เดียว ให้ เติม er หรื อ est เช่น long longer longest

ยกเว้ น

1.1 คําพยางค์เดียวที่เป็ นกริ ยาช่องทีส่ าม (past participle) ซึ่งนํามาใช้ อย่าง

adjective

hurt (ได้ รับบาดเจ็บ) more hurt most hurt

worn (ขาดวิ่น, เสื่อมสภาพ) more worn most worn

1.2 คําพยางค์เดียวทีเ่ ป็ นคําบอกสัญชาติ,เชื ้อชาติ เช่น

She is more British than you are. (เขาเป็ นอังกฤษมากกว่าคุณเสียอีก)

1.3 คําคุณศัพท์ พยางค์ เดียว มี่สระตัวเดียว ตัวสะกดตัวเดียว ให้ ซํ ้าตัวสะกดแล้ ว

จึงเติม er หรื อ est เช่น
big bigger biggest
sad sadder saddest
1.4 คําคุณศัพท์ พยางค์ เดียวลงท้ ายด้ วย e ให้ เติม r หรอ st ได้ เลย เช่น
safe safer safest
wise wiser wisest

2. คําคุณศัพท์ สองพยางค์ เติม more และ most ข้ างหน้ า เช่น

handsome(หล่อ) more handsome the most handsome
compact(กะทัดรัด) more compact the most compact
ยกเว้ นบางกรณี เติม erหรื อ est เช่น
2.1 ลงท้ ายด้ วย yและหน้ า Y เป็ น พยัญชนะ ให้ เปลีย่ น y เป็ น i แล้ วเติม er
หรื อ est เช่น
easy easier easiest
heavy heavier heaviest
ยกเว้ น shy (ขี ้อาย) shyer shyest

2.2 คําสองพยางค์ซึ่งลงท้ ายด้ วย er, re, le, และ ow เติม er หรื อ est เช่น

bitter(ขม) bitterer bitterest

sincere(จริ งใจ) sincerer sincerest
simple(ง่าย) simpler simplest
narrow(แคบ) narrower narrowest
3. คําคุณศัพท์ สามพยางค์ ขนึ ้ ไป เติม more และ most ข้ างหน้ า เช่น
economical(ประหยัด) more economical the most economical

dangerous( อันตราย) more dangerous the most dangerous

4. Irregular adjectives คําเหล่านี ้ เปลีย่ นรูป เช่น
good/well (ดี) better best
bad (เลว) worse worst
much/many (มาก) more most
little (น้ อย) less least
far ( ไกล ) farther/further farthest/furthest
