Solar System

The Solar system is the gravitationally bound system of the planets and the Sun along with other
objects that orbit it.

Module Name
OUR SOLAR SYSTEM
The solar system is filled with so much more than just planets. Learning about the solar system,
its planets and other interesting things that float around in it can be fun when approached in
new and exciting ways.

Audience
Children can be divided into three groups on the basis of understanding and level of intellect.
•Basic
•Intermediate
•Advanced

Objective
To relay a basic understanding of the Solar System and its Characteristics
•Planets
•Stars
•Orbits
•Rotation
•Revolution
•Days&Nights

Inventory
•Chalk

Time Allotments
•First 4 minutes -Warm Up Exercises like Jumping Jacks, Arm Circles, Side shuffles, Back
pedalling etc.
• 2 minutes for drawing orbits.
• 2 minutes for sorting kids according to height.
• 2 minutes for assigning the role of each planet and sun to the kids.
• Remaining 50 minutes for implementation of the module.

Steps
For Basic Group
•Step 1
A brief introduction of the module.

•Step 2
Draw eight orbits on the floor with the help of a chalk.
•Step 3
Select a group of nine children and sort them according to height and assign them the role of
eight planets and Sun.

•Step 4
Make them Rotate and Revolve around the Sun(Stationary Child in the centre)simultaneously in
their respected orbits.

For intermediate Group

•Step 5
Magnifying the learning by including moons of each planets revolving around their respective
planets

•Step 6
Illustrating the concept of Days and nights.
i.e. Children as planets facing the sun experience a day otherwise night.

For Advanced Group(if any)

•Step 7
Illustrating the Concept of Eclipses i.e. Solar and Lunar by taking the kids as Sun, Moon and
Earth and aligning them in a line and demonstrating Eclipses.

•Step 8
Assigning Children the role of dwarf planets and differentiating them from regular planets.
Eg. Pluto once considered a planet is a dwarf planet.
